Job Summary
The Sherwin-Williams Assistant Manager Trainee Program is an accelerated, entry‑level position designed to prepare current employees for a Store Management role within 18 to 24 months.
The program includes intensive 6‑8 week training and a schedule of up to 44 hours per week, which may include evenings and weekends.
During the program, you will collaborate with store management to oversee a multi‑million‑dollar business, lead sales strategy, and market growth efforts among commercial clients such as painting contractors, purchasing agents, and manufacturers.
You will receive a comprehensive training experience that equips you with skills in management, professional sales, and customer service, and will enable you to shape your future career path.
Responsibilities- Complete training consistent with the program’s schedule.
- Support business strategies to increase sales and optimize profitability.
- Ensure high levels of customer satisfaction through excellent service.
- Build and maintain knowledge of all products to recommend effectively.
- Build positive relationships with wholesale and retail customers.
- Complete store administration tasks.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures, including safety, loss prevention, and security.
- Maintain excellent store condition and visual merchandising standards, including promotional packages and sales floor displays.
- Support employee training, development, performance management, and corrective action.
- Respond to and resolve any customer and/or employee complaints.
- Partner with the Store Manager to make outside sales calls to increase market share.
This role involves contact with customers—including minors—and handling cash, electronic payment methods, and sensitive personal information. A criminal history review may be required to protect the safety of the Company’s customers, staff, and the general public.
Minimum Requirements- Must be at least eighteen (18) years of age.
- Must be legally authorized to work in the country of employment without requiring sponsorship for a work visa now or in the future.
- Must have a valid, unrestricted driver’s license.
- Must have at least a high school diploma or GED.
- Must be able, with or without reasonable accommodation, to retrieve material from shelves and floor stacks and lift and carry up to 50 lbs. frequently and up to 70 lbs. on occasion.
- At least one (1) year of experience in a retail, sales, or customer service position.
- At least one (1) year of experience in a leadership role, supervising others, or leading teams.
- Previous work experience selling paint and paint-related products.
- Experience using timekeeping and/or customer relationship management (“CRM”) systems.
- Associate's degree or higher in business, sales, or marketing.
- Experience working in a team-oriented setting, including work experience, extracurricular activities, or military service.
- Willingness to relocate for future job opportunities.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in more than one language.
- Ability to read, write, comprehend, and communicate in Spanish.
