A Barnes & Noble bookstore is a gathering place for readers and the community. As a Bookseller, you are an integral member of the bookselling team at the heart of our stores. You welcome customers in a cheerful and helpful way, answer questions, and consistently go out of your way to connect readers with the right titles and products. You also help maintain the attractive presentation of the store and keep it running efficiently.

This includes unpacking and shelving deliveries, tidying displays, and working our registers in a quick and friendly manner to deliver highly professional service.

• Use varied technology—including registers, computers, tablets, and other tools—comfortably and efficiently.
• Develop strong merchandising skills to maintain book presentation and store cleanliness.
• Apply visual merchandising skills across gifting, toys, and other product categories.
• Run a register competently to serve customers quickly and reliably.
• Support receiving and unpacking of deliveries and accurate shelving.
• Find books and products with ease and accuracy using your knowledge and available tools.
• Support the café team when needed.
• Understand loss‑prevention procedures and de‑escalation techniques; identify theft and problematic behavior.

• Build book knowledge across fiction, nonfiction, and children’s titles.
• Maintain sections and present books attractively.
• Recommend books effectively to customers across varied sections.
• Support key sales objectives such as Monthly Picks, Book of the Year, Membership, and pre‑orders.
• Expand knowledge in educational toys, specialty games, hobby and collectibles, music, movies, and newsstand items.
• Maintain backstock effectively and assist customers with their shopping.
• Leverage knowledge to support sales of new releases and key products.
• Advance to Senior Bookseller with increased responsibilities and growth opportunities.

Employees scheduled for less than 20 hours per week receive an employee discount, EAP, and sick pay. Hourly pay starts at $17.25 and can reach up to $18.75.
