Job Summary
The Sample Custodian provides clerical and administrative laboratory support for the environmental organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, and biology departments at the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) Region 10 Laboratory. The role involves handling sensitive equipment and supporting sample preparation for short‑term storage and upcoming analyses.
Essential Requirements- Must be able to obtain government security clearance.
- Working knowledge of technical manuals, SOPs, and quality assurance procedures.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Strong organizational, time‑management, and safety‑standard promotion skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Perform shipping, receiving, storing, distributing, and logging of samples.
- Open coolers, inspect contents, and verify documentation accuracy.
- Distribute sample containers to appropriate storage locations.
- Enter sample information into the Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS).
- Organize spent samples for disposal.
- Adhere strictly to SOPs, health and safety policies, and quality control requirements.
- Use required safety equipment, including eye protection, gloves, and other PPE.
- Associate’s degree in Physical Sciences or Business.
- Minimum of 3years in an environmental laboratory, or high‑school diploma with at least 6years of environmental laboratory experience.
- Primarily office or field work requiring sitting, speaking, hearing, walking, and use of hands.
- Occasional lifting of up to 20pounds; may lift up to 40pounds of training equipment.
- Ability to stand, climb, and work in adverse weather conditions.
Estimated pay range: $25 to $32 per hour, based on location, skillset, and experience.
