ThisOpportunity
We are seeking an entry-level Geologist or Environmental Scientist to join our team! This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working outdoors, traveling, and building a career in environmental consulting. You'll support environmental investigation, monitoring, and remediation projects while gaining hands-on field experience! Candidates must reside in the Spokane, WA area.
YourKey Responsibilities
- Conduct field work as requested, to include out-of-town travel for up to three weeks at a time, multiple times a year
- Read and understand Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) and obtain training on specific field tasks required
- Accurately and efficiently conduct environmental sampling (air, water, soil, sediment) in accordance with the supplied work plan and SOPs with minimal oversight
- Assist in the correct installation of soil borings, monitoring wells, recovery wells (vapor phase and water) and treatment systems.
- Accurately and efficiently log soil cores/cuttings and prepare geologic boring logs and descriptions under supervisor of a Site Supervisor.
- Oversee the proper excavation of contaminated soil during remediation and construction projects under supervision of a Site Supervisor.
- Organize, digitize, and file field notes in the Document Locator database in a timely manner
- Utilize and maintain field equipment in accordance with Bay West SOPs
- Help resolve problems as they arise in the field
- Manage schedule and relationships to maintain utilization goals and complete activities within promised time frames
- Demonstrate competency with most field activities, including various methods of drilling, soil, and groundwater sampling after training
- Assist in overseeing drilling and excavation crews, including conducting health and safety tailgate meetings and directing field crews

- Geology/hydrogeologic analysis- Help prepare well log summaries
- Ability to travel 35 - 55% of time
- Support Restoration Advisory Board by taking meeting notes setting up and taking down chairs and tables
- Maintain landfill cap through quarterly inspections and oversite of annual weed spraying
Required Qualifications
- BS
- Geology, Earth Sciences, or Related (must meet education requirements to obtain professional geologist licensure) - 0 to 3 years of experience in Geology/Geologist or field technician role
- Current 40-hour HAZWOPER certification or ability to obtain certification within 30 days
- Able to obtain site access to secure areas such as Federal or State sites
- Must be authorized to work in the United States and able to provide documentation establishing identity and employment authorization as required by federal law.
- Ability to employ common field practices involving drilling, groundwater sampling, and excavation oversight
- Ability to read and understand maps, schematic drawings, diagrams, and instruction manuals
- Proficiency using Word and Excel applications
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- Ability to lean with field equipment such as water quality monitoring instruments, photoionization detectors (PIDs), and global positioning systems (GPS) units
- Must live within a one hour commuting distance of Spokane, WA or be willing to relocate.
- Ability to function in work environments that sometimes include high heat, high humidity, extreme cold, roadway traffic hazards, on water (boat operations) and confined spaces.
- Must be comfortable wearing a full-face respirator for extended periods of time.
- Adequate vision and hearing to safely see teammates' hand signals and hear warning communication in low light.
