Campus Police Officer – full‑time, 100% position (Posting Number 2025055CP). Salary ranges from $70,812 to $95,220, with the starting salary determined by education, experience and skills.
Job SummaryThe Campus Police Officer performs general duty police work to protect life and property, enforce laws and ordinances, maintain order, and prevent and investigate crime on the Cheney campus.
Job Duties- Patrol designated areas on foot or in a patrol vehicle to enforce institutional rules, local, state, and federal statutes and ordinances.
- Inspect buildings and grounds for irregularities, conduct fire watches, and apply community‑oriented policing (COP) principles.
- Direct and regulate traffic; investigate accidents or crimes; administer first aid; issue citations; gather evidence; locate witnesses; appear in court and present evidence.
- Issue misdemeanor citations; investigate, arrest and/or book suspects for misdemeanors, gross misdemeanors, and felony offenses.
- Assist city or county police and state patrol in emergency cases; operate departmental communication equipment; answer telephone inquiries; dispatch units; monitor alarm systems; prepare, type and distribute reports.
- Prevent or disperse illegal gatherings or demonstrations; maintain surveillance and perform other duties as required.
- High school graduation or GED.
- Age 21 or older.
- Valid driver’s license.
- No prior felony convictions.
- At least two years of full‑time college study in Police Science or a related field, or one year of police or campus security experience.
- Passing a written and physical test administered through Public Safety Testing.
- Required psychological and polygraph tests.
- Authorization to work in the U.S.; no sponsorship available.
- Compliance with EWU Immunization Policy 602‑02.
- Current commissioned police officer.

7K – 6‑month rotation of 10‑hour, 40‑minute shifts per day with a 5 ON/4 OFF and 5 ON/5 OFF schedule.
Physical Demands- Use of eye, hearing and respiratory protection; protective gloves, duty boots and ballistic vest.
- Pre‑placement hearing test and medical monitoring; post‑hire protective equipment.

Additional InformationApplicants must complete a written and physical test and pass a psychological and polygraph test. The position involves a 12‑month term with rotation shifts and requires the associate to attend a 720‑hour basic law enforcement academy for entry‑level applicants. Lateral applicants must hold a current Washington State Criminal Justice Training Commission Basic Law Enforcement Academy Certificate or equivalent. Interviews may be conducted via Zoom, requiring candidates to demonstrate video conferencing proficiency.
