Outside Plant Construction Technician III – Spokane, WA
As an Outside Plant Construction Technician III, you will be responsible for installing, testing, troubleshooting, and maintaining buried and aerial fiber facilities. You will operate construction equipment such as trenchers, backhoes, and directional drill rigs and perform tasks such as fusion splicing, fault detection, and using OTDRs.
Responsibilities- Operate and maintain construction equipment, including excavation tools, to build and repair outside plant fiber networks.
- Install, splice, test, troubleshoot, and repair fiber optic facilities using specialized equipment.
- Conduct cable fault acceptance tests, locate defective fiber, and resolve issues efficiently.
- Update GIS, maps, and as‑builts; set and label infrastructure such as pedestals, vaults, and hand‑holes.
- Restore worksites to original condition upon project completion.
- Train and mentor team members as needed and maintain construction equipment.
- Provide support to field service technicians and complete required documentation promptly.
- 2+ years of construction equipment operation using underground and aerial construction equipment such as directional drills, trenchers/plows/rocksaws, backhoes, or bucket trucks – OR current or prior military service with an honorable discharge.
- Must follow TDS attendance guidelines to meet business needs.
- Must have a valid driver’s license and be eligible for DOT requirements.
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL; a current CDL preferred.
- Physical ability to climb poles, ladders, towers, kneel, dig, lift, and pull.
- Must successfully complete the Safety Training course curriculum upon hire.
- Must pass customer‑specific background check if required.
- 1+ years’ experience in construction of fiber‑optic cable outside‑plant networks or underground/overhead utilities preferred.
- Horizontal directional drilling experience preferred.
- Understanding of telecommunication products and services.
- Organizational skills and ability to multi‑task.
- Occasional travel may be required.
- Willingness to work overtime and various shifts as needed.
This role requires frequent standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, and handling equipment, with the ability to lift/move up to 50 pounds regularly and over 100 pounds occasionally. Work conditions may include exposure to outdoor weather, high‑risk areas, and extreme temperatures.

Pay Range$27.62 per hour – $41.42 per hour.
