Job Summary
Outside Plant Construction Technician I – Spokane, WA
Build and maintain fiber optic infrastructure by installing aerial and buried fiber, operating tools, and ensuring compliance with safety protocols.
Responsibilities- Conduct construction tasks in various weather conditions, following safety standards.
- Aid in transporting construction equipment to and from the worksite.
- Assist with and execute the installation of aerial and buried fiber based on maps and staking sheets.
- Operate hand tools, cable locators, and testing equipment.
- Install and set enclosures, including buried and aerial vaults, pedestals, and handholes.
- Climb poles, ladders, towers, and other structures as required, using a bucket truck when necessary.
- Label and mark fiber optic and copper facilities accurately.
- Utilize dispatching applications and relevant tools for project coordination.
- Support fiber splicing, repairs, and outside plant maintenance activities.
- Restore landscapes to original condition upon project completion.
Other duties may be assigned as needed.
Core Qualifications- Minimum 6 months of experience in customer service, electrical or utility construction, technical certification, or military service with honorable discharge.
- Ability to follow attendance guidelines, maintain a valid driver’s license, and meet DOT requirements.
- Ability to obtain a Class A CDL; current CDL preferred, with in‑house training available.
- Ability to operate manual transmission vehicles.
- Successful completion of safety training and customer‑specific requirements, including background checks.
- Physically capable of climbing, kneeling, digging, lifting, and pulling as required.
- Basic knowledge of telecommunications products and services.
- Strong organizational and multitasking skills.
- Willingness to travel, work overtime, and adapt to various shifts.
On‑board training includes safety, pole climbing, bucket truck operation, directional drill rigs, mini excavators, trenchers, and fiber optic testing. Class A CDL training and pulley equipment training are available.
Physical Demands and Work Environment- Frequent physical activity: standing, walking, kneeling, climbing, lifting up to 50 pounds regularly and occasionally over 100 pounds.
- Vision: close, distance, color, and depth perception required.
- Work conditions: outdoor weather, attics, crawl spaces, high voltage zones, trenches, manholes.
- Exposure to heavy equipment, fumes, vibration, extreme temperatures, and loud noise.

Hourly pay range $22.62 to $33.94 per hour. Actual offers based on skills, qualifications, experience, location, and role‑specific competencies. Additional compensation such as bonuses may apply.
