Provide a service of installation, repair, and maintenance of all plumbing requirements throughout the district facilities for the purpose of maintaining an environment that is safe for staff, the community, and the education of students.

SALARY: LEVEL 7 on the Plumbers and Steamfitters Salary Schedule. Experience increments depend on experience in the same or similar permanent position within a Washington State public school.
Responsibilities
  • Perform routine maintenance of all general plumbing items which include fire sprinkler systems, sewage, grease and clay traps, domestic hot water systems, various types of kitchen equipment, heat exchanger coils, etc., as required.
  • Install valves, vacuum breakers, pumps, faucets, and any other components that are considered to be part of a plumber's trade.
  • Install cast iron, copper, or plastic waste lines according to plumbing codes.
  • Read and interpret plans, blueprints, and sketches; construct, lay out, or plan piping assemblies with respect to walls, structures, and other obstructions.
  • Inspect and diagnose malfunctions, repair, maintain, and test plumbing systems as required.
  • Troubleshoot, repair, and test backflow devices. Remove and replace or install all types of plumbing fixtures such as sinks, drinking fountains, kitchen equipment, lavatories, water closets, etc.
  • Construct various types of pipe joints for high or low pressure systems including threading, brazing, soldering, welding, or leadpiping of joints.
  • Observe safety rules and regulations.
  • Perform related duties as requested by supervisor.
  • Qualifications
  • Demonstrated ability and aptitude to perform the responsibilities listed.
  • Valid Washington State plumber's license.
  • Journeyman plumber having completed recognized apprenticeship program or equivalent.
  • Demonstrated ability to read and follow plans and blueprints.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform routine plumbing maintenance.
  • Demonstrated safety record.
  • Ability to carry out directions with minimum supervision.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of uniform plumbing code.
  • Demonstrated ability to relate and work effectively with a diverse group of co-workers and staff in a courteous, professional, and confidential manner.
  • Demonstrated skills in written and oral communication.
  • Valid driver's license and acceptable driving record required.
  • Relates positively to youth and adults of varying socioeconomic, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds.
  • Valid Backflow Assembly Tester (BAT) certificate or the ability to obtain a certificate within six months of hire date.

  • Work Schedule - Days and hours (listed above) are subject to change depending on program and district needs.
  • Stipends, Leave Accruals and Holidays - Stipends, leaves and paid holidays are in accordance with the applicable collective bargaining agreement as negotiated.
