Position: HVAC Mechanic  DC

HVAC Mechanic – Med Star Georgetown University Hospital – 1st Shift (Salary $40 to $45 per hour)

The HVAC Maintenance Mechanic performs a variety of skilled maintenance duties related to the facilities engineering and maintenance departments. This is a first shift 7:00 am to 3:30 pm, Monday through Friday.

Responsibilities
  • Update work statuses and document tasks completed in the CMMS using a mobile device.
  • Help direct building team staff and vendors, determine material needs, and set timelines for jobs and projects.
  • Cleans, lubricates, services, repairs, and diagnoses malfunctions of HVAC equipment, electrical and mechanical building systems.
  • Apply working knowledge of commercial HVAC cooling and heating systems larger than 25 tons for cooling.
  • Utilize pneumatic controls, DDC controls, PE switches, damper controls, large fan arrays, low‑voltage safety circuits, VAV maintenance, large exhaust fans, fan‑coil units, DX split units, humidifiers, exhaust fans, hydronic pumps of various sizes, air‑balancing, metal duct work, and fire/smoke dampers.
  • Work with chillers, cooling towers, hot‑water boilers, steam boilers, steam traps, heat exchangers, and condensate return stations.
  • Assist in making decisions on all repairs and report major problems to the Manager as appropriate.
  • Construct, finish, install, maintain, and repair electrical and mechanical systems or related facilities using power and hand tools and other vital equipment.
  • Review outside vendor projects and create punch lists.
  • Analyze and correct sophisticated building system problems and electro‑mechanical issues related to utilities.
  • Support project‑management activities as needed.
  • Respond to emergency problems in the facility and perform emergency repairs as required.
  • Maintain logs, perform rounds, and complete preventive‑maintenance work orders, tests, and inspections of HVAC equipment.
  • Recommend modifications or improvements to preventive‑maintenance systems.
  • Maintain shops and mechanical areas in a clean and safe manner.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • 5 years’ experience as a Maintenance Mechanic in an institutional setting with an engineering or maintenance focus.
  • HVAC certification or license is highly desired.
  • Experience working with blueprints and schematics.
  • General understanding of electro‑mechanical equipment.
  • Basic ability to operate hand‑operated construction equipment.
  • Capability to repeatedly lift 50 pounds and perform kneeling, bending, and stooping for extended periods.
