Maintenance Mechanic 2 – Administrative Services Division

• Eastern Region Office in Spokane, WA (must reside within commutable distance)

Work in office five days per week, not eligible for telework. Flexible or compressed schedule may be available after onboarding.

• Monitor building systems daily and respond to any discrepancies in HVAC, Plumbing, Electrical, Keycard systems, and EV Charging equipment.
• Inspect building grounds including main building, parking lots, annex.
• Perform preventive maintenance and inspections on building equipment.
• Perform grounds maintenance tasks such as clearing sidewalks and walkways of snow.
• Schedule and coordinate on‑site work carried out by outside vendors.
• Provide occasional support to the facilities team at other Ecology sites (Central Region Office in Union Gap, WA; Richland Field Office in Richland, WA).
• Other duties as assigned.

Four years of experience and/or education as described below:

• Experience in building and equipment maintenance, construction, or repair work. Must demonstrate competence in:
  • Facilities Maintenance and Repair Knowledge – knowledge of commercial building systems and ability to perform routine and complex repairs.
  • Building Systems Troubleshooting – diagnosing and repairing HVAC, electrical, plumbing, fire/life‑safety systems using testing tools and documentation.
  • Building Automation System Operation – operating and troubleshooting commercial building automation systems such as Automated Logic.
  • General Construction and Carpentry – framing, drywall installation and finishing, painting, concrete work, office reconfiguration.
  • Vendor Coordination – scheduling, coordinating, and monitoring contractors; verifying completion; ensuring timelines and specifications.
  • Technical Documentation & Records Management – maintaining accurate work orders, maintenance logs, inspections, electronic records.
  • Tools, Equipment, and Maintenance Technology – proficiency with hand and power tools, diagnostic equipment, Microsoft Office and work order systems.
  • Independent Work Management & Problem Solving – prioritizing work, responding to urgent issues, resolving problems safely.
• Education from a college, vocational, trade, or apprenticeship program in facilities maintenance, mechanical or electrical engineering, or a closely related field.
• Examples of qualifying education: associate’s degree in a related discipline, or completion of certifications such as Building Care and Maintenance Certificate of Competency, Maintenance Technician I and II Certification, Building Care and Maintenance I and II Certification, EPA 608 Universal Certification, OSHA 10 Certification.
• Examples of how to qualify:
  • 4 years of experience.
  • 3 years experience + 30‑59 semester/45‑89 quarter credits.
  • 3 years experience + one certification listed above.
  • 2 years experience + 60‑89 semester/90‑134 quarter credits (Associate’s).
  • 2 years experience + two or more certifications.

• Must possess and maintain a valid driver’s license.

• Experience working within a preventative maintenance program.
• Knowledge of Fire Alarm and Fire Suppression systems and their testing procedures.
• Hazardous materials handling and safe disposal.
• Material storage and inventory control.
• Understanding of building‑related emergency response procedures.
