SUMMARY OF POSITIONThis role functions as an experienced technician who can perform diagnosis and repair of most vehicle components with little supervision required. He/she has demonstrated mastery on most vehicle systems and is able to accurately diagnose and repair them. Expected flat‑rate efficiency level is 110%+. In order to move to the A‑Level, the B‑level technician will need to meet all the requirements of both the C‑Level and B‑Level technician and will have demonstrated accurate diagnosis and repairs without the need of assistance or supervision.
DUTIES& RESPONSIBILITIES Key Result Area #1:
Vehicle Repairs
- Diagnostics & Repair:
Diagnose and repair routine to intermediate mechanical and electrical malfunctions (engines, transmissions, suspension, brakes). - Maintenance:
Perform complex preventive maintenance and services, including HVAC, fluid flushes, and alignments. - Safety Inspection:
Examine vehicles to determine if further safety or service work is required. - Documentation:
Accurately document all work performed in the shop management system. - Efficiency:
Perform work efficiently and accurately, adhering to shop or factory standards. - Mentorship:
Assist and guide lower‑level (C‑Level/Apprentice) technicians. - Communication:
Communicate with parts staff to obtain necessary parts and inform service advisors on job progress.
- A "B‑level" technician is expected to actively hold or be working towards ASE certifications.
- Proven skills in steering, suspension, brake systems, light diagnostics, and general engine repair.
- Strong understanding of automotive systems, proficiency with diagnostic equipment, and proficiency with electronic service information tools.
- Independence:
Expected to work without direct supervision on most maintenance and repair tasks. - Computer literate with good proficiency using Word, Excel, Outlook, Office 365, UKG HR; able to complete documents, reports, and accurate records.
- Excellent communication skills including written, verbal and instructional.
- Flexible to variable shift times and punctuality.
- Prove to be teachable and organized with the ability to manage multiple projects/tasks at once; able to listen and follow instructions.
- Valid driver’s license - required.
- Clean driving record and insurable by UGM driver safety program standards - required.

- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs - frequently.
- Ability to work in a standing position for long hours and in various weather conditions - continuously.
- Proficiency in operating specialized automotive equipment - frequently.
- Requires working indoors and outdoors - continuously.
- Requires climbing stairs, sitting, standing, bending, and reaching – continuously.
- Requires a sustained level of high energy, stamina, and the ability to move about all of the facilities on a regular and ongoing basis – frequently.
- Requires the ability to hear, see, and speak clearly – continuously.
- Equipment:
Must own a comprehensive set of automotive hand tools.
- Education:
High school diploma or equivalent; vocational training highly preferred. - ASE
Certifications:
Minimum of two to four (2‑4) active ASE certifications (typically A4, A5, A6, A7, or A8) are strongly preferred. - Experience:
Proven three to five (3‑5) years of documented experience in a professional repair shop, typically including previous work as a C‑Level technician.
