Electrical and Controls Technician – A critical role responsible for the maintenance and optimization of production equipment throughout the manufacturing facility. The technician provides technical support for controls (PLCs, HMI/SCADA), electrical and mechanical projects, and repairs, ensuring equipment operates safely, efficiently, and within cGMP requirements.
Responsibilities- Provide troubleshooting, repair, modification, and preventive maintenance for PLC‑based control systems, loop controllers, VFDs, HMIs, chart recorders, and associated instrumentation across manufacturing and utility systems.
- Execute work in accordance with cGMP requirements, maintaining documentation such as work orders, change control, SOPs, calibration/PM records, and validation deliverables.
- Support process and facility equipment including sterilizers, lyophilizers, filling lines, cappers, HVAC systems, chillers, and related utilities.
- Maintain and troubleshoot legacy PLC and control systems, including obsolescence management, spare strategy, and backups; support system upgrades, migrations, and standardization efforts.
- Lead electrical troubleshooting and repair activities for low‑ and high‑voltage systems (up to 480 VAC); execute work safely per NFPA 70E and site procedures while supporting installations, capital projects, and facility modifications.
- Read, interpret, and modify control logic; document and communicate programming changes and system behavior to support investigations, deviations, and root‑cause analysis.
- Read and interpret electrical schematics, loop diagrams, P&IDs, panel layouts, and mechanical drawings, including pneumatic, gas, vacuum, and high‑pressure systems.
- Apply knowledge of AC/DC circuits, motor controls, instrumentation, and test equipment to diagnose and resolve issues efficiently.
- Utilize standard software and control platforms, including PLC programming software, HMI/SCADA tools, and basic industrial networking.
- Execute work with minimal supervision, demonstrating ownership of assigned systems and driving reliability improvement and follow‑through on corrective actions.
- High School Diploma or Equivalent (required)
- 4+ years of related experience (required)
- Proficiency with Rockwell (Control Logix/SLC), legacy PLC platforms (PLC‑5, SLC 500) (required)
- Experience with HMI/SCADA (Factory Talk) (required)
- Mechanical aptitude (required)
- Electrical safety, LOTO, arc flash awareness (NFPA 70E), and confined space awareness (required)
- Manual dexterity (required)
- Ability to read and understand construction and machine drawings (required)
- AAS degree or technical certification (desired)
- PLC programming certifications or experience (desired)
- Pharmaceutical or regulated industry experience (preferred)
- Advanced vocational or specialized knowledge (preferred)
- Microsoft Excel and Word proficiency (preferred)
- ERP/SAP experience (preferred)
- 14/14 Corrected Near‑Point Vision
- 20/30 Near‑Point Corrected Vision
- Pass Color Deficiency Test
- Respirator clearance required
Physical Requirements
- Ability to lift 60 pounds unassisted
- Exposure to allergens; ability to work in allergen‑exposed environments
- Ability to push, pull, and twist as required by job duties
- Work across the facility as needed; maintain aseptic gown certification for troubleshooting in aseptic manufacturing environments
