Summary:

Reporting to the Supervisor of HVAC Mechanical Services, the HVAC Mechanic performs a variety of skilled duties associated with the maintenance, installation, repair, replacement, and alteration of equipment and systems, including air-conditioning, heating systems, control systems, and water distribution systems.

Job Description:

  • Works from blueprints and instructions to inspect, test, troubleshoot, repair, and install heating, ventilation, air conditioning (HVAC), refrigeration, plumbing, and related systems, including but is not limited to, central and window air conditioning systems, small reciprocating systems, domestic and commercial refrigeration units, package units, gas- and oil-fired boilers, pumping systems, water heaters, and hot water and steam systems.

  • Inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and installs environmental, pneumatic, and electronic control systems, including temperature controls, air handling equipment, pumps, air compressors, transmission lines, thermostats, and valves.

  • Installs and maintains water and steam lines, water distribution systems, drain lines, sewer and storm lines, steam traps, and pressure-reducing stations.

  • Inspects, tests, troubleshoots, repairs, and installs appliances, commercial cooking equipment, water fountains, exhaust fans, and facility maintenance equipment such as vacuums, pressure washers, and floor and window cleaning equipment.

  • Installs required connections for new equipment, including electrical circuitry as needed.

  • Cuts, fits, installs, repairs, and seals insulation; mixes insulation compounds as required.

  • Performs routine maintenance tasks, including lubricating and cleaning equipment and replacing filters.

  • Orders materials and equipment required for assigned work.

  • Conducts preventive maintenance inspections according to established schedules; and recommends improvements and assists in developing and revising procedures.

  • Maintains accurate daily records of work performed and materials used.

  • Assists outside contractors as needed.

  • Erects and dismantles scaffolding and staging; and performs work at heights as required.

  • Uses a variety of testing and diagnostic equipment, including voltmeters, meggers, ohmmeters, and capacitor testers.

  • Serves as a technical advisor to management on HVAC systems and related infrastructure.

  • Performs other building and grounds maintenance and supports other trades as needed.

  • Responds to emergency service calls.

  • Establishes and maintains a positive and supportive working relationship with co-workers and supervisors.

  • Demonstrates a genuine commitment to belonging in the workplace and participates in activities and workshops to foster continuous learning.

  • Serves as a mandatory reporter under Title IX; and commits to completing Title IX training and other compliance requirements on an annual basis.
