Position: Community Corrections Officer 3 (CCO3) - Reentry Spokane

Department of Corrections

Community Corrections Officer 3 – Eleanor Chase House Reentry Center, Spokane, WA. Full‑time, Monday‑Friday 8:00 a.m. – 4:30 p.m.

Overview

The Community Corrections Officer 3 works collaboratively with internal and external stakeholders to improve public safety by supervising reentry center residents, ensuring accountability, and supporting successful community transition. This position requires arming and the ability to carry a department‑issued firearm.

Duties
  • Supervision of adults placed in partial confinement at a reentry center within prescribed time frames.
  • Review all available information for each arriving resident; determine documentation and initial programming needs.
  • Conduct PREA screening within 72 hours of arrival; document in OMNI and tracking sheet.
  • Complete intake with residents to orient them to center rules and processes.
  • Make decisions concerning residents’ financial obligations, sanctions, housing, and treatment and education referrals.
  • Maintain resident files—both electronic and hardcopy—and update resident plans and programming needs.
  • Conduct searches of residents, residences, and/or vehicles; complete collateral contacts such as field visits as required.
  • Engage with residents using motivational interviewing, effective interpersonal relationships, reinforcement, and problem‑solving techniques; complete behavior observation entries.
  • Make referrals to change interventions based on risk‑need assessment and review participation progress.
  • Counsel and inform residents regarding community resources.
  • Enforce supervision/placement conditions and the law; staff not covered under legacy provisions must be armed.
  • Present accurate written documentation and oral testimony; make sanction recommendations for courts.
  • Transport residents to designated facilities as needed.
  • Identify, collect, document, and maintain evidence with proper chain of custody.
  • Collect, test, and document urine samples and breathalyzer results.
  • Issue and serve warrants; arrest residents for supervision or new law violations.
  • Investigate and respond to infractions and new law violations; write detailed reports on violations.
  • Testify in trial/court hearings; partner with law‑enforcement agencies as needed.
  • Attend and complete mandatory training and meetings on schedule.
  • Act as reentry center manager designee when authorized.
  • Perform other duties as assigned and necessary.
Required Qualifications
  • Two (2) years’ experience as a Community Corrections Officer in the Washington State Department of Corrections.
  • OR a bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution AND three (3) years of professional experience in adult or juvenile corrections, counseling, social work, social service, law enforcement, or a closely related field, including at least three of the following:
    • Making field visits
    • Preparing written correspondence, reports, or documents
    • Assessing cases and making recommendations
    • Referring people to appropriate resources
    • Presenting cases in court or hearings
  • OR an equivalent combination of experience and education totaling seven (7) years.
  • Master’s degree in sociology, social work, psychology, criminology, or a closely related field substitutes for five (5) years of experience.
  • Associate’s degree substitutes for two (2) years of experience.
  • Staff must be willing and able to possess and use a firearm under federal and state laws, maintain qualifications, and complete mandatory training for arming.
