Section I:
Brief Summary of the Job
The Deck and Grounds Attendant is responsible for maintaining an inviting, positive, clean and safe environment at the City’s Aquatic Center. The Attendant effectively communicates and enforces rules, regulations, and policies to visitors while performing basic custodial duties, clean‑up work, grounds maintenance, and monitoring facility.
Section II:Essential Duties of the Job
- Communicate and enforce pool rules and policies to participants and patrons.
- Provide excellent customer service and maintain a positive public image by addressing questions and concerns from staff, patrons and participants in a timely manner.
- Follow and enforce all policies and procedures.
- Clean facilities and grounds as needed, including pool deck, bathrooms, and concession area.
- Waters and weeds landscaping and grounds.
- Identify and observe general equipment daily for possible maintenance needs and adjustments.
- Maintain pool cleanliness, ensuring clear, vacuum and clear gutters.
- Report maintenance needs to supervisor; follow‑up on the status of the facility needs with supervisor.
- Complete all checklists, reports and paperwork as needed.
- Complete and verify required reports and records for first aid, rescues, accidents, theft, vandalism, payroll, and daily logs accurately and on time. This individual will report safety incidents to the Aquatic Center Assistant Supervisor.
- Exhibit a high degree of customer service skills and positive attitude with staff and customers at all times and create and maintain good public relations.
- Assist with events and programs.
- Attend staff meetings and training programs as specified.
- Post and remove any flyers, brochures, signs, or other information needed.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Aquatic Center Assistant Supervisor.
- Duties, responsibilities, scheduling, shift assignments and work location may be added, deleted or changed at any time at the discretion of management, formally or informally, either verbally or in writing.
Education, Formal Training and/or Certifications Required
Must be able to read, write, and count; basic knowledge of addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.
Section IV:Experience
No experience required. Must be at least 14 years of age.

Skills and Abilities

Must be able to solve problems as they arise and perform tasks with minimal supervision. The employee must be highly motivated and able to assume a positive and active role at the Aquatic Center even under potentially stressful conditions (hot or cold weather, upset or injured guests, etc.). Must enforce rules, make sound decisions and complete training. Daily interaction with the general public and co‑workers establishes successful working relationships and uses sound judgement, honesty, and integrity in decision‑making.
Must communicate efficiently and professionally to staff and patrons. Must be able to be firm with pool visitors (both youth and adults) when necessary, enforce pool rules, and make sound decisions to secure the safety and well‑being of all visitors, facilities, and equipment. Must work early mornings, days, evenings, and weekends and complete training.
Problem‑Solving:
Independent problem‑solving is involved. The employee may encounter problems with citizen complaints and must have excellent time‑management skills.
Decision‑Making:
Independent decision‑making is a factor. Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, present ideas and recommendations concisely, understand and carry out verbal and/or written instructions efficiently, operate assigned equipment, interact and communicate well with others, follow safety guidelines, exercise judgment in all aspects of responsibility, and resolve conflict safely, calmly, and efficiently.
Supervision:
This employee is subject to supervision from the Aquatic Center Assistant Supervisor and Facility Supervisor.
Financial Accountability:
This employee is responsible for the aquatic facility equipment and fees received from patrons.
Personal Relations:
