Overview
The Sr. Accountant is responsible for applying principles of accounting to management reporting, financial and variance analysis, capital accounting, and transactional support. This role works closely with the General Manager and corporate finance team to ensure proper financial recording and reporting, identify areas of improvement in business operations, and spearhead change efforts within the accounting group.
Key Responsibilities- Recursively manage department reports and business variance analysis.
- Support the plant operating team with daily, weekly, and monthly performance metric consolidated reporting.
- Analyze financial information detailing assets, liabilities, and capital; prepare balance sheets, profit and loss statements, and other summary reports.
- Assist in developing monthly financial forecasts and compile entries to general ledger accounts.
- Review, investigate, and correct errors and inconsistencies in financial entries, documents, and reports.
- Perform statistical analyses to determine trends, estimates, and significant changes, and write narrative reports explaining findings.
- Maintain fixed asset ledger and track projects in progress; run monthly depreciation reports.
- Evaluate active assets annually for impairment, scrapping, or retirement.
- Assist with the capital accounting process, project setup, and spend reporting/reconciliations.
- Provide recommendations regarding the accounting of reserves, assets, and expenditures.
- Participate in the monthly close process and balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring timely and high-quality output.
- Monitor and review sales tax returns in Avalara; maintain sales tax and prepaid account records.
- Assist in budget preparation duties and conduct annual physical inventory.
- Ensure compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP) and company procedures.
- Conduct studies and submit recommendations for improving the organization’s accounting operations.
- Assist other personnel with inquiries on accounting procedures.
- Perform month‑end reporting and variance analysis as required.
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting.
- 3–5+ years of directly related experience in an accounting role, including 3–5+ years in accounting/financial analysis; background in a manufacturing environment preferred.
- Advanced/intermediate skill with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint); proficient use of spreadsheets, word processing, databases, and automated systems.
- CPA or CMA candidate is a plus.
