Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium‑ion battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high‑technology plant will have the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology.

Position DescriptionThis position will be part of a technical team responsible for engineering work that includes continuous improvement, investigating and troubleshooting equipment, manufacturing and facility problems, analyzing production results, implementing and improving manufacturing methods and processes, and ensuring high yield and productivity in a highly automated manufacturing environment. The engineer will also interact with internal and external customers and vendors to resolve urgent and complex problems and provide support for all in‑plant production as required.
Position requires some on‑call support.
- The Control Engineering team is a key partner in the organization responsible for the Formation/FA process technology.
- The engineer will be trained and developed in PLC programming to program the automation and controls systems of various manufacturers (Italy, Japan, Korea).
- Create, monitor and modify logic for program design, simulation and testing, start‑up, and troubleshooting.
- Manipulate these items using Siemens PLC programming: motion control with servo motor and robot.
- Integrate and implement various systems such as Bar Code & RFID Reading, Robot, Ultrasonic Welding, Vision, Weigh Scale, Gas Sampling, etc.
- Machine cleaning responsibilities.
- Additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor of Science or Associate’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Automation (or related) required.
- 0 to 3 years of industrial controls experience – experience working in a manufacturing or automotive engineering environment through an internship, co‑op, entry level job role, or similar is preferred.
- Exposure to controls and electrical systems design, automation, mechanical assemblies, and manufacturing assembly equipment.
- Proactive, resourceful, and highly motivated with good communication skills.
- Exposure or education in battery systems or processes is a plus but not required.
- Bilingual Korean/English preferred.
- Ability to work well in a team environment.

Employee may be exposed to or working with hazardous materials and/or hazardous waste. Upon hire, employee will receive initial environmental training over RCRA, SWPPP, SPCC, and emergency escalation. Annual refresher training will be completed each year to fulfill the requirements of 40 CFR. Other training to be provided as required.
