Deputy Fire Chief
Under the direction of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief serves in a key executive leadership role with responsibility for both administrative and operational functions of the Spring Hill Fire Department. The Deputy Fire Chief assists in the management, coordination, and oversight of departmental operations, personnel, programs, and strategic initiatives. In the absence of the Fire Chief, the Deputy Fire Chief assumes command of the department and is responsible for the overall leadership and daily operations of the organization.
This highly visible position requires professionalism, sound judgment, and effective leadership while representing the department and the City in all interactions. The Deputy Fire Chief directly supervises Battalion Chiefs and Division Chiefs and assists the Fire Chief with strategic planning, budget development, policy implementation, organizational improvement, and long-range planning. The position serves as an integral member of the City's leadership team.
Examples of Duties:
Essential elements include responding to emergency incidents, developing departmental goals, assisting with budget development, monitoring performance measures, coordinating hiring processes, directing and coordinating work of assigned personnel, developing and enforcing departmental policies, maintaining proficiency in firefighting operations, working with the Training Division, overseeing capital purchases, overseeing inventory and audit of departmental assets, representing the department in meetings, serving as a departmental spokesperson, participating in Community Risk Reduction initiatives, and maintaining involvement in professional organizations.

Qualifications:
Knowledge, skills, and abilities include thorough knowledge of fire suppression and prevention practices, knowledge of fire suppression rating schedules, knowledge of NFPA standards, proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, knowledge of firefighting equipment, knowledge of local geography, ability to remain calm in emergencies, ability to establish working relationships, excellent communication skills, strong leadership, organizational, planning, and supervisory skills, ability to prepare reports and presentations, and ability to follow directives and complete assignments in a timely manner.
Minimum qualifications include a valid Tennessee Driver's License, a Bachelor's Degree or higher in a relevant field, minimum of 12 years of Fire Service Experience, State of Tennessee EMS Licensure, ICS 300, 400, NFPA 1021, NFPA 1521, and NFA Leadership Series.
Preferred qualifications include working knowledge of ESRI/GIS, National Emergency Response Information System, Image Trend Elite & Continuum, Visual Preplan, State of Tennessee Chief Fire Officer Orientation, NFPA 1033, NFA Executive Fire Officer, Center for Public Safety Excellence Chief Fire Officer, TEEX Fire Service Chief Executive Officer, or graduate of the IAFC Fire Service Executive Development Institute Program.
