Summary:

The main function of a production supervisor is to supervise and coordinate the activities of production and operating workers.

Job Responsibilities:
  • Recommend measures to motivate employees and to improve production methods, equipment performance, product quality, or efficiency.
  • Review operations and confer with technical or administrative staff to resolve production or processing problems.
  • Develop and implement production tracking and quality control systems, analyzing production, quality control and maintenance to detect production problems.
  • Hire, train, evaluate, and discharge staff, and resolve personal grievances.
  • Prepare and maintain production reports and personnel records.
Skills:
  • Verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and problem solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and manage one's time.
  • Knowledge of raw materials, production processes, quality control and other techniques for maximizing the effective manufacture and distribution of goods.
  • Knowledge of machines and tools, including their designs, uses, repair and maintenance.
  • Knowledge of design techniques, tools and principles involved in production of precision technical plans, blueprints, drawings and models.
Business Group:
  • Trim shop, multiple conveyors and about 250 people, different areas they might be in trim 1 or trim 2, door line. The department may change; they will rotate among general assembly groups, managing 20‑40 people (team leaders, hourly UAW employees), with 6 direct team‑leader reports and 30 in total under them.
  • Extensive interaction with many people throughout their shift, working with the entire team of 30.
  • Potential for an extension, possibly as early as six months into the contract.
Education/

Experience:
  • Associate's Degree required;
    Bachelor's Degree nice to have.
  • At least 3‑5 years of experience.
  • UAW/union experience is nice to have.
  • Six Sigma or other problem‑solving certificates is nice to have.
  • Face‑paced environment/automotive background is a nice to have; automotive background is a huge plus.
Shift Rotation:

Must be willing to rotate shifts.

  • 1st shift 6 AM – 2:30–3 PM.
  • 2nd shift 4 PM – 12:30 AM.
  • Rotate every 4 months; the starting shift will be TBD, likely 1st shift then rotate to 2nd shift in 4 months.
