Production Engineer

Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint‑venture lithium‑ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high‑technology plant is a new construction that incorporates the latest battery cell manufacturing technology and represents a $2.3 billion investment – one of the largest of its kind worldwide. Ultium Cells produces battery cells for General Motor’s North American electric vehicle applications.

This onsite position is part of the technical team responsible for continuous improvement, equipment and facility troubleshooting, production result analysis, and process enhancement in a highly automated manufacturing environment. Responsibilities also include interaction with internal and external customers and vendors to solve urgent and complex problems while ensuring high yield and productivity.

• Ensure compliance with workplace safety programs.
• Monitor and ensure timely distribution of safety alerts and incident reports.
• Develop plans to optimize production conditions and utility rates.
• Reduce waste through continuous improvement activities.
• Provide timely feedback on performance.
• Maintain an environment that encourages initiative, creative thinking, and self‑motivation.
• Monitor product standards through implementation and oversight of quality control programs.
• Monitor the requirements and results for monthly quality review meetings.
• Identify all controllable failures and eliminate them with permanent corrective actions.
• Develop plans to attain monthly and annual yield goals and productivity goals.
• Coordinate with maintenance and facility teams to reduce downtime.
• Analyze and reduce costs while maximizing production processes.
• Approve expenditures for supplies, materials, and vendor services.
• Work with the accounting team to create a budget and spending plan to further understand the financial impact of production results.
• Machine cleaning.
• Additional duties as assigned.

• Bachelor’s degree in Chemical, Industrial, Manufacturing, Mechanical, or a related engineering discipline is required.

• 0 to 3+ years of experience in continuous improvement or manufacturing in a highly automated and/or automotive engineering environment (experience in manufacturing lithium‑ion batteries is preferred).
• Must be able to speak and read English.
• Experience with or knowledge of large production lines, PFMEAs, and process controls helpful but not required.
• Knowledge of Time Studies, Line Balancing, Lean Manufacturing, Six Sigma, and Bottleneck Analysis is helpful.
• Excellent communication skills: verbal, written, presentation.
• Critical thinking and an analytical mindset.
• Strong computer skills: MS Office.
• Able to work flexible hours to support the entire production team.
• Demonstrated teamwork and effectiveness in accomplishing goals.

Employees may be exposed to or required to work with hazardous materials and/or hazardous waste. Upon hire, employees will receive initial Environmental training covering RCRA, SWPPP, SPCC, and emergency escalation. Annual refresher training will be completed each year to fulfill the requirements of 40 CFR. Other training will be provided as required.
