EHS Specialist

The EHS Specialist promotes and champions a strong safety culture within the plant by serving as the primary in-facility voice for environmental, health, and safety matters. This role ensures compliance with EHS standards, drives safety awareness and engagement, and supports continuous improvement initiatives in a modern manufacturing environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Champion and actively promote a positive safety culture throughout the plant, focusing on at-risk behaviors and conditions.
  • Serve as the in-plant point of contact for all environmental, health, and safety (EHS) issues.
  • Verify compliance with EHS standards through regular audits, observations, and inspections across the facility.
  • Review and maintain accuracy of written procedures, including lockout procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
  • Lead the Safety Committee, coordinating meetings, action items, and follow-up activities.
  • Participate in accident and incident investigations, identify root causes, and ensure completion of corrective actions.
  • Track and monitor EHS-related programs, including training databases, rollout compliance, and safety inspection results, and identify deficiencies.
  • Organize, maintain, and file EHS and safety documentation in accordance with company policies and legal requirements.
  • Conduct and support new-hire safety orientation to ensure all employees understand safety expectations and procedures.
  • Develop and implement new programs and initiatives to increase overall safety awareness and engagement among plant employees.
  • Coordinate waste handling activities, including emergency response procedures related to environmental incidents.
  • Implement and support recycling initiatives to improve environmental performance.
  • Maintain an up-to-date inventory of safety data sheets (SDS) for all materials on site.
  • Plan and lead monthly Safety Kaizens to address safety concerns, identify areas of opportunity, and drive continuous improvement.

Essential

Skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in Environmental, Health & Safety or equivalent on-the-job relevant experience.
  • At least 2 years of experience working in EHS within a manufacturing environment.
  • Strong leadership skills with the ability to influence and engage employees at all levels.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills for training, documentation, and cross-functional collaboration.
  • Hands-on experience with health and safety practices in manufacturing settings.
  • Ability to conduct safety audits, inspections, and observations and interpret findings.
  • Knowledge of OSHA regulations and health and safety standards.
  • Experience delivering or coordinating safety training programs.

Additional Skills &

Qualifications:

  • OSHA 30 certification is highly preferred.
  • Experience working with ISO standards is ideal.
  • Experience in environmental safety practices, including waste handling and recycling initiatives.
  • Experience leading safety committees or similar cross-functional safety groups.
  • Familiarity with maintaining safety data sheets (SDS) and EHS documentation systems.
  • Experience facilitating continuous improvement activities such as Safety Kaizens.
  • Ability to develop and roll out new safety programs and engagement initiatives.

Work Environment:

This position is based in a temperature-controlled manufacturing facility that operates Monday through Friday on a standard 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. schedule. The environment is modern and well-maintained, reflecting a growing tier-1 automotive supplier setting with updated equipment and processes. The role involves regular presence on the plant floor to observe operations, conduct audits, and interact with employees, as well as office-based work for documentation, planning, and program development.

Appropriate safety attire and adherence to all plant safety protocols are expected while working in production areas.

Pay and Benefits:

The pay range for this position is $31.00 - $36.00/hr eligibility requirements apply to some benefits and may depend on your job classification and length of employment.
