TITLE: School Secretary – Clerk II

FLSA STATUS: Non-Exempt

High school graduate and one year of training beyond high school or one-year experience in this job category or meet established score on the high school proficiency test developed by Cumberland County Schools. Minimum typing skill of 35 wpm. Must obtain and maintain a CDL Bus license and drive a bus when called upon to do so.

• Prepare correspondence and review/edit correspondence prepared by staff, checking for correct grammar, proper format, and necessary attachments.
• Maintain files of office records and correspondence, organize subject matter groupings in accordance with office needs, and gather and present information from files and other sources to the supervisor.
• Review incoming mail for proper distribution purposes.
• Receive telephone calls and visitors, providing information regarding school and/or departmental activities and programs, and refer calls or visitors to appropriate staff members.
• Receive routine complaints from the public and refer to proper staff for official review and action.
• Prepare agenda for office, departmental, or school staff meetings, take minutes, and follow through on matters requiring correspondence.
• Prepare assigned reports.
• Maintain confidentiality of work‑related matters.
• Obtain and maintain CDL bus license; complete pre‑trip and post‑trip inspection; drive a bus when called upon while maintaining proficiency in driving skills; maintain bus route schedule; maintain discipline and report undisciplined students to school administration; discharge students only at authorized stops and transport only authorized students; comply with local and state traffic regulations and observe all mandatory safety regulations; report delays and accidents;
  
  clean the interior of the bus.
• Serve as a team player and role model for other employees, demonstrating commitment to continuous quality improvement and supporting organizational core values.
• Perform other duties and accept responsibilities as assigned.

• Must be able to communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
• Must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform basic life operational functions such as kneeling, sitting, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.

Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required. Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver's License. Applicants must be able to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) when requested for purposes of driving a school bus.

Full‑Time

$2,600 to $3,681 per month
