Job DescriptionTitle: Teacher Assistant
FLSA Status: Non-Exempt
Qualifications- College transcript showing a degree was earned.
- College transcript showing at least 48 college‑level courses completed (CCS does not count remedial/pre‑requisite courses).
- College transcript showing at least 24 college‑level courses completed plus Work Keys Assessment with passing scores in Workplace Documents (Reading) – score 4 or better, Business Writing – score 3 or better, Applied Mathematics – score 4 or better.
- Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
- Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
- Must obtain and maintain a CDL Bus license and be able to drive when called upon.
Principal and Assigned Teacher(s)
Job GoalTo support the teacher in the teaching‑learning process for students.
Duties and Responsibilities- Academic Assistance – Gives group instruction as prescribed by teacher; provides individualized instruction; demonstrates various instructional activities; checks and corrects students’ work while in progress; keeps students on task; praises and reinforces achievement; reports student progress to teacher.
- Instructional Preparation/Support – Arranges classroom furnishings and equipment, prepares visual aids and duplicates materials; reorganizes materials at the end of day; serves as proctor during testing, scores students’ papers as instructed, distributes and collects instructional materials; attends workshops.
- Report and Records – Checks and reports attendance; enters data in health records, records student behavior and files data according to regulatory requirements.
- Monitoring Student Behavior – Supervises students in classroom and other locations; creates and distributes awards for positive behavior; promotes self‑esteem; teaches citizenship, social skills, respect; reconciles minor student conflicts; participates in development of discipline and policy; disciplines misbehavior through approved methods; reports discipline problems; reports significant changes in behavior.
- Bus Operations – Obtains and maintains CDL bus license; completes pre‑trip and post‑trip inspections; drives a bus while maintaining proficiency; maintains bus route schedule; maintains discipline, reports undisciplined students; discharges students only at authorized stops and transports only authorized students; complies with traffic regulations; reports delays and accidents; cleans interior.
- Serves as team player and role model; demonstrates commitment to continuous quality improvement; supports core values of caring, respect, integrity, responsibility, high expectations, being customer driven, and valuing fairness.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Must be able to obtain a CDL when requested; must communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, community leaders; must have finger dexterity and be able to physically perform basic life operational functions (kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, repetitive motion).
Special Requirements- Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.
- Must possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
- Applicants must be able to obtain a CDL when requested for driving a school bus.
Full‑Time
Salary$2,438 to $3,450 per month
