Teacher Assistant
Qualifications- College transcript showing a degree earned.
- College transcript showing at least 48 college‑level courses completed (CCS does not count remedial/pre‑requisite courses).
- College transcript showing at least 24 college‑level courses completed (CCS does not count remedial/pre‑requisite courses) plus Work Keys Assessment with passing scores:
Workplace Documents (Reading) – score of 4 or better;
Business Writing – score of 3 or better;
Applied Mathematics – score of 4 or better. - Working knowledge of effective methods of dealing with children.
- Ability to solve minor problems and follow detailed written and oral instructions.
- Must obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) and be able to drive a school bus when called upon.
- Give group instruction as prescribed by the teacher; provide individualized instruction.
- Demonstrate various instructional activities.
- Check and correct students’ work while in progress; keep students on task.
- Praise and reinforce student achievement.
- Report student progress to the teacher.
- Arrange classroom furnishings and equipment; prepare visual aids and duplicate materials.
- Reorganize materials at the end of the day.
- Serve as proctor during testing; score papers as instructed by the teacher; distribute and collect instructional materials.
- Attend workshops.
- Check and report attendance.
- Enter data in health records; record student behavior; file data according to regulatory requirements.
- Supervise students in the classroom and in other locations.
- Create and distribute awards for positive behavior.
- Promote student self‑esteem; teach citizenship, social skills, and respect for others.
- Reconcile minor student conflicts.
- Participate in development of discipline and policy.
- Disciple misbehavior through approved methods.
- Report discipline problems to the teacher or principal.
- Report significant change or lack of change in student behavior.
- Obtain and maintain CDL bus license.
- Complete pre‑trip and post‑trip inspection.
- Drive a bus when called upon while maintaining driving proficiency.
- Maintain bus route schedule.
- Maintain discipline and report undisciplined students to school administration.
- Discharge students only at authorized stops; transport only authorized students.
- Comply with local and state traffic regulations and mandatory safety regulations.
- Report delays and accidents.
- Cleans the interior of the bus.
- Obtain and maintain a Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
- Communicate orally and in writing with parents, staff, and community leaders.
- Possess finger dexterity and perform basic physical operations: kneeling, sitting, standing, walking, stooping, reaching, lifting, pushing, pulling, talking, seeing, hearing, and repetitive motion.
- Background check with local and state law enforcement agencies required.
- Possess a valid North Carolina Driver’s License.
- Must obtain a CDL when requested for bus driving.
Became a Full‑Time position.
Salary: $2,438 to $3,450 per month.
