The Clark County Building Department is seeking qualified candidates to apply for the Building Permit Specialist I/II position. This role serves as a key point of contact for applicants, contractors, and members of the public, providing specialized support throughout the building permit process and helping ensure projects move forward efficiently and in compliance with County regulations. In this dynamic position, you will assist customers in person, by telephone, and through virtual communication platforms while guiding them through the permitting process.
Responsibilities include reviewing and processing permit applications, receiving plans and supporting documentation, scheduling inspections, issuing permits, calculating and collecting permit fees, and maintaining accurate permit records. This position plays an important role in supporting safe and responsible development within Clark County by helping ensure that construction projects meet established codes and regulatory requirements.

The Clark County Building Department supports employee development by providing training and covering approved, job-related certification and examination costs, including ICC certifications required for successful performance of the position and career advancement, in accordance with County policy.
Building Permit Specialist I: $24.79 - $36.58 Hourly
Building Permit Specialist II: $26.70 - $39.50 Hourly
The Building Permit Specialist I is a training underfill position, upon successful completion of the training program the successful candidate will be non-competitively promoted to Building Permit Specialist II.
THIS RECRUITMENT IS LIMITED TO THE FIRST 250 APPLICATIONS RECEIVED AND WILL CLOSE WITHOUT NOTICE ONCE THAT NUMBER IS REACHED.
This examination will establish an Open Competitive Eligibility list to fill current and/or future vacancies that may occur within the next six (6) months at either level or may be extended as needed by Human Resources. Human Resources reserves the right to call only the most qualified applicants to the selection process.

Building Permit Specialist I: Equivalent to graduation from high school AND three (3) years of full-time clerical experience preferably in a building construction, zoning, plan review or similar setting. College level training in pre-engineering or construction technology is desirable. Professional level experience and/or education that has provided the skills and knowledge necessary to perform all job functions at this level may be substituted on a year-for-year basis up to one (1) year.
