Overview
The Project Scheduler is responsible for developing, maintaining, and monitoring project schedules to support the successful execution of construction projects. This role works closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, and clients to ensure project timelines, milestones, manpower planning, procurement activities, and critical path items are properly coordinated and tracked throughout the lifecycle of the project.
The Project Scheduler plays a key role in identifying potential delays, forecasting schedule impacts, and helping project teams develop recovery plans to keep projects on track and within contractual deadlines.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities- Develop baseline project schedules during preconstruction and project kickoff phases.
- Create and maintain detailed construction schedules using scheduling and resource planning software.
- Update project schedules on a regular basis based on field progress, subcontractor updates, procurement status, and project changes.
- Identify critical path activities and monitor schedule risks that could impact project completion dates.
- Coordinate with Project Managers, Superintendents, Procurement teams, and subcontractors to gather schedule updates and verify progress.
- Track procurement lead times, material deliveries, equipment availability, inspections, and permitting milestones.
- Analyze and evaluate schedule impacts resulting from change orders, project delays, scope modifications, unforeseen construction conditions, and owner directed changes.
- Prepare recovery schedules and mitigation plans when delays occur.
- Generate and distribute schedule reports, milestone updates, and progress dashboards for internal teams and clients.
- Partner with Operations leadership to forecast manpower requirements across all active and upcoming projects.
- Maintain accurate documentation supporting schedule updates and progress reporting.
- Ensure schedules align with contractual obligations, phasing requirements, and project milestones.
- Support claims documentation related to schedule delays, acceleration, or disruptions when required.
- Lead implementation and administration of company scheduling and workforce planning software.
- Develop company-wide scheduling standards and reporting procedures.
- Support project staffing decisions and long-range workforce planning.
Educational and Experience requirements include:
- 3+ years of construction scheduling experience preferred.
- Experience working on commercial, industrial, low-voltage, infrastructure, or mission-critical construction projects is a plus.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Project or similar scheduling software.
- Strong understanding of construction sequencing, procurement processes, and project execution.
- Ability to interpret construction drawings, specifications, and project documentation.
- Strong organizational, communication, and analytical skills.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines simultaneously.
A successful Project Scheduler is proactive, detail-oriented, and highly organized. They are able to communicate effectively with both field and office teams, anticipate scheduling conflicts before they become major issues, and provide clear visibility into project timelines to support successful project delivery.
