i.e. Smart Systems is seeking an experienced Senior Cabling Project Manager to lead complex commercial structured cabling and technology infrastructure projects from award through successful completion. This role is responsible for the overall performance of assigned projects, including financial results, scheduling, resource planning, procurement, client relationships, contract compliance, and project closeout.
The Senior Cabling Project Manager serves as the primary point of contact for clients, general contractors, and other project stakeholders while partnering closely with Field Operations, Estimating, Procurement, Accounting, and other internal teams. This position requires a strong understanding of commercial construction and structured cabling, along with the leadership and business acumen necessary to anticipate challenges, make sound decisions, and drive projects forward.
The ideal candidate is an experienced project leader who can successfully manage multiple projects and priorities while maintaining accountability for safety, quality, schedule, customer satisfaction, and profitability.
Typical Duties and Responsibilities- Lead complex commercial structured cabling projects from turnover and preconstruction through installation, billing, and final closeout, including multimillion-dollar projects.
- Own overall project performance, ensuring projects are completed safely, on schedule, within budget, and in accordance with contractual requirements and customer expectations.
- Review estimates, contracts, scopes of work, drawings, specifications, schedules, and project requirements to identify risks, opportunities, and potential gaps.
- Develop and manage project plans, schedules, milestones, staffing requirements, procurement needs, and deliverables.
- Manage project financial performance, including budgets, labor productivity, forecasting, cost-to-complete, billing, change orders, and overall profitability.
- Serve as the primary point of contact for clients, general contractors, and other project stakeholders, building strong relationships and proactively addressing project needs and concerns.
- Coordinate with Field Operations, Estimating, Procurement, Accounting, and other internal teams to ensure resources, materials, information, and project priorities remain aligned.
- Provide leadership and direction to project teams, including Superintendents, Foremen, subcontractors, and other project personnel, while establishing clear expectations and accountability.
- Proactively identify and resolve issues involving scope, design, schedule, procurement, staffing, field conditions, and construction coordination before they negatively impact project performance.
- Manage project documentation and contractual requirements, including RFIs, submittals, change orders, notices, and other project controls.
- Conduct site visits as necessary to monitor progress, quality, safety, productivity, and overall project execution.
- Support and mentor less-experienced project management team members while promoting consistent project management practices and continuous improvement.
- Travel to project sites and client locations as required.
10+ years of project management experience in commercial construction, with significant experience managing structured cabling, low-voltage, or technology infrastructure projects.
- Demonstrated success managing large, complex projects and multiple concurrent project teams.
- Proven experience managing project financials, including budgets, forecasting, cost-to-complete, change orders, billing, and profitability.
- Strong knowledge of structured cabling systems, construction processes, drawings, specifications, contracts, and project documentation.
- Proven ability to lead field teams and collaborate effectively with Superintendents, Operations, Estimating, Procurement, Accounting, and other internal teams.
- Experience serving as the primary client-facing project leader with general contractors, owners, architects, consultants, and other project stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to identify project risk, resolve issues, and make sound decisions with limited oversight.
- Experience managing projects of significant size and complexity; experience with projects exceeding $5M strongly preferred.
- Strong negotiation, communication, leadership, and conflict-resolution skills.
- PMP certification preferred, but not required.
