Job Description SUMMARY
The John Cooper School is seeking an Upper School History Teacher for the 26/27 school year.
The John Cooper School, located in The Woodlands, TX, on a beautiful 40-acre campus with a total enrollment of 1,300 students, is an independent, coeducational college preparatory day school serving students in Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12. The Upper School (Grades 9-12) is a dynamic, caring, and collegial environment that fosters curiosity and joy in our learners.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES- Teach World History, US History, and/or other related History and Social Science Courses. Cooper offers a variety of courses in the History/Social Sciences Department including multiple electives and AP courses. Specific courses assigned will be a function of departmental need and candidate’s expertise.

- Knowledge of current best practices in Upper School education
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate effectively with colleagues and desire to approach planning and innovation in a team environment
- Model lifelong learning with an openness to and enthusiasm for learning and professional growth
- Combine intellectual curiosity with experiential, hands-on learning practices
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills with students, parents, and colleagues
- Strong organizational, and written and verbal communication skills
- A bachelor’s degree in history, social science, education or related field;
Master’s degree preferred - Minimum of three (3) years applicable classroom teaching experience; independent school experience preferred
- Required to walk; stoop, kneel or crouch; reach with hands and arms
- Generally, the job requires 10% sitting, 90% walking, and standing
- Must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds
- Classroom work environment
- Bachelor’s degree in history, history education, or related field is required;
Master’s degree preferred - Minimum of three (3) years classroom teaching experience; independent school experience preferred
