Position: Adjunct Faculty, Education 1300

Purpose and Scope

It is the responsibility of the teaching faculty to provide the learning activities and support that will lead to the achievement of the course objectives and contribute to the educational environment of the college and the community. Primary responsibilities are to plan, develop and teach courses within the curriculum in a manner that facilitates student learning.

Adjunct faculty are hired part‑time on a semester‑by‑semester basis. They may teach a maximum of five classes per academic year.

Essential Job Functions
  • Teach EDUC 1300 courses at a variety of times and locations.
  • Create engaging lessons that promote student involvement and application of the material.
  • Submit required college reports and forms in a timely manner.
  • Utilize a course syllabus for each course, following established institutional guidelines.
  • Meet with and advise students either before or after class or by appointment, electronic communication, or other appropriate methods.
  • Evaluate students to measure progress and inform them in a timely manner.
  • Maintain professional relationships with students, colleagues, and the community.
  • Attend meetings, trainings, and orientations as required.
  • Perform other reasonable related duties as assigned.

    • Mastery of course content.
    • Demonstrated leadership skills; collaborative, teamwork, and facilitation style.
    • Excellent oral and written communication skills and interpersonal skills.
    • Ability to appreciate alternative viewpoints and work effectively with a wide variety of people.
    • Interest in interdisciplinary teaching, service learning, learning technologies, course development, and adult learning methodologies including collaborative learning, learning communities and distance learning.
    • Commitment to academic excellence, exceptional service, and providing a dynamic climate for life‑long learning.
    • Demonstrated ability to develop and implement instructional approaches such as service learning/civic engagement, learning communities, and effective use of technology.
    • Ability to use effective strategies to engage students in their learning.
    Physical Abilities

    The work is sedentary. The employee sits comfortably. There may be walking, standing, bending, carrying light items, or driving a automobile. No special physical demands are required.

    Work Schedule and Conditions
    • Equipment includes PC workstation, calculator, phone, and other general office equipment standard for the discipline.
    • Interface with internal and external contacts as needed.
    • Work performed in climate‑controlled classroom and/or lab with minimal safety hazards.
    • Hours vary by class time; faculty must meet with classes at scheduled times and be available to students outside instruction.
    Required Qualifications
    • Master's degree and completion of required institutional professional development.
    Salary

    $55.44 per contact hour.
