JOB TITLE: Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security Career and Technical Education Teacher (CTE) – High School
REPORTS TO: Principal

PRIMARY
PURPOSE:
The Law, Public Safety, Corrections and Security Career and Technical Education (LPSCS) Teacher is responsible for developing curriculum to teach students entry-level skills for specified areas of employment consistent with state regulations and district philosophy and procedures.
All employees are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate clearly and respectfully, champion student needs, and drive continuous improvement.
QualificationsRequired:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certification in Trade and Industrial Education with appropriate work approval
Preferred:
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- Work experience in Law or Criminal Justice
- Ability to certify students with an industry certification
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
- Strong organizational, communication and interpersonal skills
- Coordinates with the Director of Career & Technical Education to meet state guidelines and provide a consistent program.
- Provides instruction consistent with District curriculum.
- Plans and administers individualized study programs to meet students’ needs.
- Conducts safety training and maintains appropriate documentation.
- Maintains discipline in accordance with local policy.
- Works with appropriate CTE Program Specialist in developing and revising curriculum.
- Works with CTE Program Specialist regarding program needs, equipment, software, ensuring effectiveness and equity.
- Identifies needed curriculum changes and reports to CTE Program Specialist.
- Participates in development and revision of CTE curriculum.
- Participates in approved professional development programs.
- Cooperates with Director of Career and Technical Education in maintaining records needed for local and state reports.
- Maintains records to verify student accomplishment of competencies.
- Incorporates records into grade reporting and interpretation for building requirements and parents.
- Maintains necessary records for CTE reporting requirements.
- Maintains lab in accordance with safety policies.
- Performs duties in a professional manner consistent with state regulation and program standards.
- Supports the Career and Technical Student Organization (CTSO) for student participation.
- Provides work-based learning experiences for students in the law or criminal justice field.
- Participates in and provides business partners for the CTE Advisory Board.
- Complies with the position description of the classroom teacher.
- Orders content-specific supplies and equipment in accordance with CTE purchasing guidelines.
- Maintains an accurate inventory of equipment and supplies and reports to the CTE department.
- Maintains proper care and use of supplies and equipment.
- Follows protocol for damaged equipment for repair, transfer or disposal.
- Stays current in the area of law or criminal justice education through professional organizations and workshops.
- Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.
The usual and customary methods of performing the job’s functions require physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, and some lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling. This position will also require travel within the district and statewide. Mental demands include ability to solve problems, interpret data and policy, apply current research, communicate effectively, and maintain emotional control under stress.
