Job Description

The Positive Behavior Intervention Assistant (PBIA) will provide leadership and direction at the school level, designing, implementing, coordinating, and evaluating a comprehensive behavior support program. The PBIA works directly with identified students to develop positive social and academic habits that increase academic performance. The PBIA will address students’ inappropriate behaviors, provide strategies to help them become more academically successful, and deliver classroom and school-wide behavior management strategies in collaboration with teachers.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Completion of at least two years of study at an institution of higher education (48 semester hours of college coursework), or an associate’s degree or higher; or passing the Spring ISD NCLB test in Reading, Writing, and Mathematics.
  • 3 years of experience working with students as a learner advocate, reflective practitioner, and active support for teaching and learning including community education or social service experience.

Preferred:

  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited college or university.
  • 5 years of experience working with students as a learner advocate, reflective practitioner, and active support for teaching and learning, community education, or social service experience.
Special Knowledge / Skills
  • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions.
  • Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior.
  • Ability to work collaboratively on a team.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of behavior de‑escalation strategies.
  • Ability to prepare reports and correspondence and maintain accurate records.
Major Responsibilities and Duties
  • Coordinate PBIA activities with the appropriate administrator.
  • Organize PBIA supports for effective classroom management and supervise each student.
  • Receive, secure, and return students’ assignments from teachers.
  • Monitor student progress on assignments and communicate with teachers if students have difficulty.
  • Assist students in completing assignments.
  • Review assignments before returning them to the teacher.
  • Arrange for supplies and resource materials for students.
  • Provide additional assignments from resource materials as needed.
  • Assign students to specific desks and inspect desks and area daily for damage.
  • Enforce school expectations.
  • Maintain records for attendance, behavior, and grades for reporting to school personnel and parents.
  • Monitor attendance closely.
  • Contact parents regarding behavior and completion of assignments as necessary.
  • Counsel students to proactively address behavior.
  • Maintain communication with counselors to arrange additional support for students.
  • Communicate with parents regularly regarding student progress.
  • Provide recognition of a variety of student accomplishments and positive behaviors.
  • Work cooperatively with building administrators and teachers to promote positive student behavior by delivering professional development that targets research, strategies, and instruction modeling.
  • Continuously supervise students to ensure a safe, non‑threatening, nurturing environment.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development to increase knowledge of positive behavior support.
  • Engage parents in the student behavior intervention plan process and empower them with skills and techniques.
  • Perform all other duties as assigned.
Working Conditions

Physical demands include mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, stooping, bending, lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling. Mental demands include problem solving, data interpretation, policy interpretation, effective oral and written communication, and emotional control under stress.
