Purpose:
The High School CTE Teacher is responsible for developing a curriculum to teach students entry‑level skills in specified areas of employment, consistent with state regulations and district policies. Employees are expected to act with integrity, support organizational goals, communicate respectfully, champion student needs, and drive continuous improvement.
Required:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university
- Valid Texas teaching certification
Preferred:
- At least one year of student teaching or approved internship
- General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
- Ability to instruct students and manage behavior
- Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
- Coordinate with the Director of Career & Technical Education to meet state guidelines and provide a consistent program for the District.
- Provide instruction consistent with District curriculum, including planning and administering individualized study programs and conducting safety training while maintaining appropriate documentation.
- Maintain discipline in accordance with local policy.
- Work with the Director in developing and revising curriculum; identify needed changes; participate in development and staff development programs.
- Cooperate with the Director in maintaining records needed for local and state reports, verify student accomplishments, incorporate records into grade reporting, and assist in follow‑up data on graduates.
- Perform duties in a professional manner consistent with state regulation and CTE program standards.
- Provide opportunities for student participation in a local chapter of a student‑leadership organization related to the CTE program.
- Coordinate activities of the program advisory committee as requested.
- Comply with the position description of the classroom teacher.
- Remain current in CTE education through professional organizations and workshops.
- In a cooperative program, visit each employment site at least six times during the school year, providing students with job leads, resume and application assistance, and counseling on on‑job problems.
- Perform other appropriate duties as assigned by the principal.
The usual methods of performing the job require physical mobility, standing, prolonged sitting, some lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling; traveling within the district and statewide. Mental demands include problem solving, interpreting data and policy, applying current research, effective communication, and maintaining emotional control under stress.
