Job Title: At Risk Teacher

Primary

Purpose:

The ‘At Risk’ Teacher is responsible for providing academic interventions for students that have been identified as at‑risk and preparing these students for academic success.

Responsibilities:

  • Teaches in accordance with staff assignment.
  • Displays effective teaching practices to assure authentic student engagement and learning.
    • Designs effective lesson plans with immediate and long-range goals.
    • Creates lessons that demonstrate real-world relevance and integration.
    • Uses time effectively and chooses appropriate materials and activities.
    • Presents subject matter clearly and interestingly.
    • Collaborates with team members and monitors student performance using formative and summative assessments.
    • Analyzes student performance data and develops plans for student success.
    • Implements the RTI process when appropriate.
    • Participates in professional learning communities.
    • Utilizes technology to support and enhance instruction.
    • Works on inter-disciplinary teams to focus on curriculum integration, relevance, and student success.
  • Administers classroom to create an environment conducive to learning.
    • Organizes procedures for effective classroom management.
    • Ensures the assigned teaching area is efficient, appealing, and safe.
    • Provides flexibility for individual and group activities.
    • Practices positive discipline techniques that help students gain self-control and responsibility.
    • Maintains a positive, accepting attitude toward students.
    • Works individually with students in a tutorial setting.
  • Cooperates with school personnel in supporting student welfare.
    • Supervises behavior and safety of students in classes, between classes, and during school-related activities on and off campus.
    • Collaborates with counselors, administrators, parents, and other staff to place students in the most effective educational setting.
    • Instructs students in school safety and emergency drill procedures.
    • Participates in special activities and programs for students and parents.
    • Supports co-curricular activities appropriate to the subject area or area of interest.
    • Works with administrators and maintenance staff to ensure safety in classrooms, hallways, laboratories, and other facilities.
  • Cooperates with the record‑keeping system.
    • Maintains accurate and up-to-date records for student performance in the online gradebook.
    • Tracks textbooks, materials, and funds provided by the District.
    • Records parent contacts, conferences, disciplinary measures, and referrals.
  • Exemplifies professionalism in behavior and performance.
    • Collaborates with staff and administrators willingly.
    • Supports the District vision and campus mission.
    • Promotes understanding of District programs and policies.
    • Stays current in education, technology, and subject instruction through literature, workshops, conferences, professional organizations, and college courses.
    • Adheres to the Texas Education Code of Ethics and District philosophy.
    • Complies with all state, district, and campus policies and procedures.
    • Completes campus improvement activities as outlined in the campus improvement plan.
  • Performs other appropriate duties as assigned.

Working Conditions: The job requires prolonged periods of standing, moderate sitting, stooping, bending, reaching, and repetitive hand motions, with occasional lifting of up to 10 lbs. The position involves travel within the district and statewide. Responsibilities include problem solving, data interpretation, applying current research, effective communication, and maintaining emotional control under stress.
