Our state‑of‑the‑art campus north of Houston serves as home to its Upstream, Product Solutions and Low Carbon Solutions businesses and their associated service groups.
What role you will play in our teamWe are seeking an experienced candidate in geomechanics, focusing on water injection and induced seismicity. The role is part of a multidisciplinary injection and seismicity research team, based at the Exxon Mobil Houston Campus in Spring, TX.
What You Will Do- Geomechanical modeling of fluid injection by coupling geomechanics with reservoir simulators.
- Investigation of seismicity or surface heave associated with injection projects.
- Modeling of induced seismicity using statistical and physics‑based methods.
- Advising on induced seismicity hazard of potential fluid injection projects.
- Evaluating numerical frameworks to forecast injection‑related induced seismicity.
- Collaboration with colleagues in the Unconventional Global Business Line, external academic institutions, and other technology organizations within Exxon Mobil.
- In‑depth knowledge of numerical methods used in geomechanical modeling, including finite‑element methods.
- PhD in rock mechanics, fracture mechanics, computational mechanics or related fields involving applied seismology and geomechanics.
- Familiarity with or experience using geomechanical modeling tools such as Def Mod, GeoS, PyLith, ABAQUS, VISAGE, Elfen, or COMSOL.
- Capacity to develop and modify technical code in MATLAB, Python or Julia.
- Advanced industry‑relevant knowledge of geology and seismology.
- Industry experience of 3–5+ years (preferred but not required).
