Sr. Principal System Architect, HPC & AI

This hybrid role expects an average of 2 days per week from an HPE office.

Job Description

The Sr. Principal System Architect will possess deep solution-level understanding of high‑performance, liquid‑cooled HPC and AI systems, including power systems, cooling systems, and data‑center facility requirements. The role requires expertise in low‑level designs and the ability to analyze, develop, modify, and evaluate electrical/electronic parts, components, sub‑systems, algorithms, or integrated circuitry for electrical/electronic equipment and other hardware systems. Responsibilities include conducting feasibility studies, design‑margin and validation analyses, and empirical testing on new and modified designs.

Contributions generate lasting technical impact across business units, projects, and products. The architect acts as a technical authority internally and externally, innovating across business units and functions, identifying and applying emerging technologies and trends, championing large projects that support long‑term company goals, leading and connecting cross‑functional teams around common goals, and mentoring others within the HPE technical community.

Responsibilities
  • Develop strategy and technology roadmaps for electrical hardware design and development engineering across the Global Business Unit and the company at large.
  • Work with customers and HPE solution architects to develop bid responses and architectural proposals, and serve as the interface back to engineering teams developing platforms to provide guidance.
  • Provide consultation, design input, and feedback for new product development and design reviews across multiple organizations and architectures.
  • Guide and mentor less‑experienced staff members to model electrical hardware design and development innovation and excellence.
  • Participate in and provide input on the process for selecting future technical leaders.
Education and Experience

Bachelor’s, Master’s, or Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering with typically 10+ years of experience.

Key Knowledge and Skills
  • Industry expert in electronic hardware development.
  • Experience with HPC and AI systems and high‑speed interconnects (Infiniband, Cray Slingshot, Ethernet).
  • Familiarity with software used on HPC and AI systems (schedulers, MPI, etc.).
  • Knowledge of AMD and Nvidia architectures and their software stacks (ROCM, CUDA).
  • History of innovation with multiple patents in electronics and hardware design.
  • Outstanding analytical and problem‑solving skills.
  • Experience in overall architecture of electronic hardware for products and solutions.
  • Designing and integrating electronic components, circuitry, and algorithms into overall architecture.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; mastery of English and local language.
  • Excellent customer interface skills and ability to communicate product architectures and negotiate at senior levels.

Salaries & Compensation

Annual salary in Texas ranges from USD 161,000 to 389,500. Variable incentives may also be offered.
