Exxon Mobil is seeking qualified and experienced individuals to provide Wells Engineering technical expertise for its oil and gas development projects. The primary role of the Wells Engineer is to collaborate with a multi‑functional team to design, plan, and execute all well‑work operations in compliance with internal and external standards. Additional responsibilities include well cost estimation, operations surveillance, risk assessment, equipment selection, and procurement support.
Whatyou will do
- Develop operational programs for drilling, completions, and/or workover activities, ensuring a focus on operations integrity and regulatory compliance.
- Develop and optimize well‑work designs for multi‑well programs, including casing and/or tubing design, and collaborate with contractors on well‑path plans, fluids, and cementing programs.
- Provide advanced technical support for drilling, completion, well intervention, and/or well abandonment strategies to improve well designs, operational plans, and support issue resolution.
- Perform comprehensive risk‑management strategies, including safety, security, health, and environmental impacts, emergency preparedness, well‑control procedures, and contingency planning.
- Provide mentoring and coaching to less‑experienced Wells Engineers.
- Perform modeling and analyses to support effective execution of drilling, completions, and/or well servicing/intervention programs (e.g., torque and drag, hydraulics, drill string/modeling).
- Develop cost estimates, steward well‑cost lifecycle, and assist management with budget planning activities.
- Support tendering and procurement activities related to well operations discipline (drilling, completions, and/or well management).
- Manage multiple contractor interfaces, establishing effective relationships while ensuring timely delivery of equipment and services, monitoring key performance indicators, and advising leadership on contractor performance.
- Assist with NPT/equipment failure investigations and follow‑up reporting.
- Perform surveillance of daily drilling, completions, and/or well‑management operations, highlighting potential deviations from plan, analyzing performance, and providing recommendations on optimization opportunities.
- Collaborate effectively with field‑based Operations Supervisors and Remote Operation Centers to drive successful execution of well programs.
- Facilitate pre‑well section meetings and post‑well after‑action reviews with input from field operations team, engineering advisors, and Wells Team leadership.
- Be responsible for final well reporting, including lessons learned and well‑cost reconciliations.
- Keep abreast of the latest technology and operational best practices for drilling, completions, and/or well‑management operations.
- Bachelor’s Degree (or higher) in an Engineering discipline.
- Prior Wells Engineering experience, preferably 5 – 15 years.
- High level of personal and professional integrity, demonstrated teamwork and leadership skills, able to manage self and lead others in a diverse work team.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to adapt communication style between on‑site and office‑based teams.
- Willingness and ability to travel to the well site to support global operations.
- Prior experience working in Exxon Mobil assets such as unconventional shale (preferably the Permian Basin) or deep‑water operations.
- Familiarity with challenging well‑operation environments (e.g., deep‑water, extended reach, managed‑pressure drilling, unconventional, high temperature/high pressure).
