What role you will play in our team
The Unconventional Operations Geologist integrates drilling, injection, completions, and geoscience data to optimize casing design and improve lateral drilling and completions efficiency for assigned wells. This role delivers technical recommendations through collaborative pre‑drill workshops and detailed pre‑drill documentation to guide well design and execution decisions. In addition, the position provides execution‑phase support to geosteering specialists and drilling engineers to help ensure safe and efficient well delivery.
WhatYou Will Do
Casing point & target window optimization
- Collaborate with drilling engineers to determine optimal casing design for assigned wells
- Collaborate with the business unit Development Geologist to ensure target windows exclude drilling hazards and make recommendations to adjust if necessary
- Construct maps, cross sections, and other displays to effectively communicate recommendations and geoscience principles to non‑geoscientists using standard wireline logs, 3D seismic, well cuttings, mud logs, and drilling data
Wellbore stability modeling
- Generate and revise wellbore stability models as required, ensuring inclusion of offset drilling, pressure data, local collapse gradient, pore pressure gradient, and fracture gradient from the vertical section through the horizontal target window
Execution support
- Construct documents for and participate in pre‑spud meetings for all assigned wells
- Facilitate collaboration and dissemination of information between Ops Geology and business unit development geologists
- Act as a longer‑lead POC for assigned areas in line with the business unit team structure
- Provide geologic context and recommendation slides in After Action Reviews (AAR) as needed
Data science
- Leverage existing and create new workflows and dashboards that incorporate all available subsurface and drilling data to maximize drilling efficiency
- Develop novel methods for integration of wellbore stability modeling products to aid in execution planning and real‑time decision making
- Collaborate with drilling data science team to identify potential improvement opportunities in modeling and data pipelines
- B.S. in Geology
- Minimum 3 years (or M.S. and 2 years) of relevant experience with geosteering, wellsite, and traditional operations geology functions
- Working knowledge of wellbore stability model foundations and utility
- Established track record of successfully working in a multi‑disciplinary team
- M.S. in Geology
