Scope / Overview

The Risk and Loss Prevention Engineer / Specialist III provides advanced engineering support to ensure projects and facility modifications comply with company standards, industry codes, regulatory requirements, and established safety criteria. This role evaluates engineering deliverables produced internally and by contractors, facilitates effective execution of discipline engineering activities, and serves as a key resource for process safety, risk management, and loss prevention initiatives.

This position is based at the Spring Campus and requires periodic travel to Permian Basin and Bakken assets. Travel expenses will be reimbursed based on submitted receipts; per diem is not provided.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong technical expertise in loss prevention engineering, environmental health and safety practices, and risk assessment methodologies while effectively communicating across multidisciplinary project teams.

Main Functions
  • Evaluate and review discipline engineering work performed by internal teams, contractors, and subcontractors for compliance with project specifications, company standards, and regulatory requirements.
  • Facilitate execution of engineering and design activities aligned with project goals, objectives, and procedures.
  • Coordinate communication between project teams and company functions regarding engineering progress, issues, and technical requirements.
  • Review designs for new projects and modifications to existing facilities to ensure compliance with company and industry safety standards.
  • Support implementation of risk mitigation strategies throughout project execution.
Tasks and Responsibilities
  • Perform technical reviews of engineering designs, calculations, specifications, and deliverables.
  • Assess facility modifications and capital projects for compliance with applicable loss prevention and process safety requirements.
  • Identify potential hazards and recommend corrective actions to reduce operational risk.
  • Support hazard identification and risk assessment activities, including participation in process hazard analyses and safety reviews.
  • Ensure engineering documentation complies with company standards, regulatory requirements, and industry best practices.
  • Collaborate with project teams, operations personnel, and contractors to resolve technical issues.
  • Communicate engineering progress, risks, and recommendations to stakeholders in a timely manner.
  • Support Management of Change (MOC) processes related to facility modifications and design updates.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering within the applicable discipline or equivalent professional experience.
  • Minimum 10 years of relevant engineering experience.
  • Demonstrated Environmental, Health, and Safety (EHS) experience.
  • Proven Loss Prevention engineering experience.
  • Extensive knowledge of discipline design standards, specifications, applicable codes, and safety criteria.
  • Ability to adapt to tight deadlines, heavy workloads, and frequent changes in priorities.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite applications.
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills, especially in technical and business environments.
Preferred Experience
  • Oil and gas, refining, petrochemical, LNG, or other process industry experience.
  • Experience supporting process safety management initiatives.
  • Experience with Process Hazard Analysis (PHA), HAZOP, LOPA, facility siting studies, and quantitative risk assessments.
  • Familiarity with consequence modeling and risk mitigation strategies.
  • Knowledge of industry standards and recommended practices from API, NFPA, ASME, and other applicable regulatory and industry organizations.
