The Sr. Director, Global Tax is responsible for Orion's tax function across all areas, including foreign and domestic tax planning and research, compliance with foreign/domestic tax laws and regulations, U.S. tax consequences related to foreign operations, and ASC 740. The role works closely with business units, corporate planning, and business development, providing tax planning around potential financing transactions, mergers and acquisitions, and other strategic initiatives.

This individual will be a key member of the finance leadership team, developing intimate knowledge of the company’s operations.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead foreign and domestic tax planning, research, structuring, and compliance for U.S. and international tax laws and regulations, including managing external advisors in multiple jurisdictions.
  • Proactively identify potential weaknesses in tax strategies, controls, reporting, and other aspects of the business and recommend solutions.
  • Provide tax planning and research on strategic transactions and lead tax research projects, managing special projects.
  • Lead the company’s tax modeling process for the corporate planning function.
  • Ensure compliance with foreign and domestic income tax returns.
  • Review monthly, quarterly, and annual income tax provisions, including deferred tax analysis.
  • Ensure Sarbanes-Oxley compliance through documentation of internal controls.
  • Coordinate tax audits and administration, providing support to the IRS and foreign tax authorities as necessary.
  • Oversee compliance with foreign withholding and VAT tax liabilities.
  • Provide leadership and insight on transfer pricing issues.
  • Handle other projects, duties, and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications
  • At least 15 years of relevant experience; global industrial industry experience preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in accounting required; an advanced degree is a plus.
  • CPA certification required.
  • Strong technical skills in tax planning, tax compliance, and ASC 740.
  • Experience in a public company environment is critical.
  • Proven track record of creating and managing tax functions.
  • Familiarity with consolidation and financial reporting processes.
  • Ability to analyze and apply tax accounting guidance to complex transactions.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP accounting standards.
  • Hands‑on familiarity with internal controls and SOX compliance.
  • Knowledge of tax accounting principles and experience reporting book/tax differences.
  • Experience managing globally distributed teams is strongly preferred.
