The campus is located in Spring, Texas, on 385 wooded acres immediately to the west of Interstate Highway 45 (I-45), at the intersection of I-45 and the Hardy Toll Road, approximately 25 miles from the cultural vibrancy of downtown Houston. We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced State Tax Counsel ready to take on complex challenges within a Fortune 50 multinational corporation. You will gain a wide variety of experience and manage a multi-jurisdiction portfolio of state and local tax matters. Keys to success include collaboration and effective communication with tax department colleagues and management, corporate finance and business unit personnel, state tax officials and outside counsel.

Business line and finance managers will look to you for guidance regarding state tax implications of major transactions, legislative and regulatory developments, audit matters, and tax savings opportunities. This position will play a key role in helping Exxon Mobil compete to win by successfully navigating an increasingly complex state and local tax environment. Advise on state and local tax planning opportunities arising from business transactions, restructurings, and operational changes

Research and analyze complex state tax issues and develop practical, business-focused solutions

Lead and support state tax controversy matters, including audits, appeals, administrative proceedings, and litigation

Monitor and assess legislative, regulatory, and judicial developments affecting the company's state tax profile

Partner with business, legal, finance, and tax teams to manage state tax risks and maximize value

We are seeking an attorney with a strong background in state and local tax planning and controversy who possesses the following qualifications:

Minimum of 7 years of state and local tax experience, including tax planning, controversy, or multistate tax advisory work

Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree

Licensed to practice law in at least one state

Strong knowledge of state income and franchise taxation principles, including nexus, apportionment, and sourcing

Demonstrated ability to analyze complex tax issues and communicate practical recommendations to business and tax stakeholders
