Registered Behavior Technician (RBT)

Nexus Children's Hospital in The Woodlands provides specialized inpatient care for children and adolescents diagnosed with Prader-Willi Syndrome (PWS). PWS is a genetic disorder that can affect appetite regulation, behavior, emotional control, and developmental functioning, requiring a highly structured and closely supervised treatment environment.

The Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) provides direct behavioral support to pediatric patients with Prader-Willi Syndrome and related medical or behavioral conditions. Working under the supervision of a Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA), the RBT implements behavior plans, collects data, and helps maintain the structured environment essential for patient safety and progress. This role requires consistency, attention to detail, and the ability to work with patients who may have developmental, behavioral, or medical complexities.

• Implement behavior intervention plans under BCBA supervision
• Provide direct behavioral support during daily routines, therapy, meals, and transitions
• Collect and document behavioral data accurately
• Maintain structured environments, including supervision related to food security protocols
• Assist with activities of daily living when behavioral support is required
• Monitor patient behavior and report changes to nursing or clinical staff
• Use approved de-escalation techniques to maintain safety
• Collaborate with nursing, therapy, dietary, and medical teams
• Maintain accurate documentation in the electronic medical record
• Follow Nexus policies, HIPAA standards, and safety procedures
• Support a therapeutic, structured environment that promotes patient progress

• Active Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) certification required
• De-escalation Training – required within 30 days of hire
• CPR / BLS Certification – required
• High school diploma or equivalent required
• Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Psychology, Education, or related field preferred
• Experience working with children with developmental or behavioral conditions preferred
• Hospital, inpatient, or residential experience strongly preferred
• Ability to work effectively within a multidisciplinary clinical team
• Compassionate, patient-centered approach to care
