Overview

Seeking an experienced Oncology Nurse to join our team in the Ambulatory Treatment Center at the Woodlands location. MD Anderson provides medical, radiation, and surgical oncology services along with supportive programs in the greater Houston area. The Woodlands site serves The Woodlands, Spring, Conroe, and communities north of Houston with cancer care close to home.

The ideal candidate will have at least two years of RN experience in oncology. Prior experience administering chemotherapy is preferred. The work schedule is Monday – Friday, 7:30am–6:00pm (10 hours with a flex day).

Key Functions
  • Transformational Leadership:
    Organizes and prioritizes the work of the patient care team, including administration of chemotherapy/biotherapy agents, pump connects/disconnects, administration of antibiotics, IV fluids, rapid response to chemotherapy reactions or emergencies, IV starts, and related tasks. Ensure continuity of care during transitions with patient education and coordination of services.
  • Structural Empowerment:
    Identify barriers to patient care and develop solutions; build strong relationships with the organization to improve patient outcomes.
  • Exemplary Professional Practice:
    Train and coach team members, ensure optimum patient care and efficient use of resources; demonstrate clinical competency and compassion in care, technology use, medication administration, procedures, and emergency management; provide coverage for Surgical Oncology and Infusion patients as needed; collaborate with physicians, other services, patients and families to plan care and evaluate outcomes.
  • New Knowledge, Innovation, and Improvements:
    Integrate research findings into practice; participate in or lead evidence-based practice projects; contribute to redesign of care delivery for unit/center populations.
  • Empirical Quality Results:
    Report through Good Catch and incident reporting systems; engage in quality and performance improvement efforts; document care according to established standards.
Education

Required: Graduation from an accredited school of professional nursing.

Experience

Preferred: At least 2 years of RN experience; infusion/chemotherapy experience.

Licensure / Certification

Required: Current State of Texas professional nursing license (RN);
Basic Life Support (BLS) or CPR certification;
Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) if working in ASC Post Anesthesia (600761);
Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) if working in ASC Post Anesthesia (600761) or Pedi - Child & Adolescent Center (113200).

Preferred: Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN).
