The Veterans Health Administration is seeking Nurse Practitioners for the West Texas VA Health Care System. This open continuous announcement is for current permanent employees of the West Texas VA Health Care System and may be used to fill Nurse Practitioner positions in areas such as Primary Care and Mental Health. The Nurse Practitioner functions as a licensed independent practitioner, providing advanced patient care, managing complex patients, supporting interdisciplinary collaboration, and helping improve patient outcomes, patient satisfaction, resource use, and care delivery systems.

Key Responsibilities:
- Provide advanced patient care as a licensed independent practitioner.
- Practice to the full extent of education, training, and certification without mandatory physician supervision or collaboration.
- Manage complex patients using advanced education, clinical experience, leadership, and creative approaches to care.
- Develop, implement, and coordinate patient care delivery systems that promote communication, teamwork, high-quality care, patient satisfaction, positive outcomes, appropriate resource utilization, and cost-effective services.
- Provide health care to individuals, families, and groups in a variety of care settings.
- Act independently and/or collaboratively with other health care professionals in the delivery of health care services.
- Support organizational processes and systems that improve overall patient outcomes.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams to enhance patient care and care coordination.
Basic Qualifications:
- Must be a U.S. Citizen. Non-citizens may only be appointed when qualified citizens cannot be recruited in accordance with VA policy.
- Must be proficient in basic written and spoken English.
- Must be subject to a background/security investigation.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
- Must pass pre-employment drug testing and remain subject to drug testing requirements for this testing designated position.
- Selective Service registration is required for males born after December 31, 1959.
- Must complete all application requirements and online onboarding requirements.
- Must provide acceptable identification for employment eligibility verification.
- Must participate in the seasonal influenza vaccination program as required for Department of Veterans Affairs health care personnel.
- Selected applicant may be required to serve a probationary period.
Nurse Practitioner
Education Requirements:
- Must have a post-master's certificate, master's degree, or doctoral degree as a Nurse Practitioner.
- Must be a graduate of a school of professional nursing approved by the appropriate accrediting agency.
- The nursing program must have been accredited by the Accreditation Commission for Education in Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education at the time the program was completed.
- Applicants pending completion of education requirements may be referred and tentatively selected, but may not be hired until education requirements are met.
- Foreign nursing education must be validated through an agency-recognized degree equivalency evaluation agency.
Licensure and Certification Requirements:
- Must possess and maintain an active, current, full, and unrestricted Advanced Practice Nurse license to practice as a Nurse Practitioner in a U.S. State, Territory, Commonwealth, or the District of Columbia.
