Why Join Exxon Mobil?
You will contribute to the development of advanced simulation and digital twin capabilities that enable better decisions across complex energy and industrial systems.
About the Role
Exxon Mobil is seeking a Postdoctoral Researcher with expertise in advanced simulation methods to support decision-making through digital twin and market/system modeling. The role focuses on developing and applying simulation approaches—such as discrete event simulation, system dynamics, and agent-based modeling—to represent complex operational and market systems. The successful candidate will build scalable simulation frameworks that integrate with optimization and analytics workflows to enable scenario analysis, forecasting, and strategic decision support.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop simulation models using discrete event simulation, system dynamics, and/or agent-based modeling.
- Build digital twins of operational or market systems to support scenario analysis and decision-making.
- Integrate simulation with optimization and data-driven models.
- Analyze system behavior under uncertainty and evaluate policy or operational strategies.
- Develop reusable frameworks for rapid simulation deployment across applications.
- Apply methods to real-world problems in energy markets, operations, and emerging low-carbon systems.
Required Qualifications
- Ph.D. in Industrial Engineering, Operations Research, Systems Engineering, Applied Mathematics, or related field.
- Experience with at least one simulation paradigm (discrete event, agent-based, or system dynamics).
- Strong programming skills (Python or similar).
- Experience building simulation models for complex systems.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with digital twin development or system-level modeling.
- Familiarity with integrating simulation and optimization.
- Experience in market modeling or energy systems.
- Knowledge of uncertainty analysis or stochastic modeling.
Duration
This opportunity is for a postdoctoral position expected to last one to three years, subject to annual review and renewal.
