Journeyman Electrician – Maintenance Department
Job Title: Electrician Journeyman Maintenance Department
Location: Spring Independent School District, Spring, Texas
Pay: $24.75 to $33.47 per year
Start Date: Immediately
Job DescriptionThe Journeyman Electrician is responsible for the installation, maintenance, repair, and modification of all electrical systems, circuits, and equipment throughout district facilities. The role requires adherence to safety standards, code compliance, and continuous skill development.
Responsibilities- Cooperate with supervisory personnel and perform electrical duties to maintain district facilities for educational operations.
- Install, repair, and wire load centers, switch panels, and electrical controls.
- Install new or updated electrical equipment.
- Conduct preventative maintenance inspections as assigned.
- Secure necessary parts, equipment, and tools at work sites.
- Prepare tasks for safe, effective, and efficient completion.
- Maintain up‑to‑date knowledge of local, state, and national electrical codes and ensure compliance.
- Maintain a current Journeyman Electrician’s license and complete annual Code Update Course.
- Participate in formal training on electrical codes, equipment, tools, and methods; pursue independent research to improve technical knowledge.
- Respond to emergency call‑outs as required (7 days/24 hours).
- Work night or varying shifts when necessary.
- Keep vehicle stocked with tools and materials.
- Follow all safety regulations related to trade areas.
- Perform additional maintenance tasks such as moving furniture, responding to emergencies, or other duties as directed.
- High school graduate or GED.
- Completion of an acceptable four‑year apprenticeship electrical training program.
- Valid Texas Journeyman Electrician license.
- Valid Texas driver’s license.
Preferred:
- Five or more years of experience as a licensed Journeyman Electrician.
- Proficient in the equipment, methods, materials, and tools used in electrical trade.
- Knowledge of common hazards and safety precautions.
- Ability to practice safety precautions while using power tools and equipment.
- Ability to follow written and oral instructions, diagrams, and manufacturer’s manuals.
- Ability to maintain good interpersonal relationships.
Fast‑paced, high‑intensity environment with frequent interruptions. Prolonged sitting, reaching, hand motions, and periodic computer use may be required. Overtime is expected as necessary.
Equipment & Personal Protective EquipmentEquipment used: ladders, scaffolds, safety eye goggles, small hand tools, various power tools, respirator, electrical diagnostic equipment.
Required PPE:
Rubber gloves and goggles when working with chemicals; back support belts when lifting.
- Day‑one orientation covering hazardous communications, MSDS, fire safety, lifting techniques, and eye safety.
- Within 90 days, attend a 2‑hour asbestos training awareness.
