Job Description

The Maintenance Technician installs, maintains, troubleshoots, and repairs a wide range of mechanical and electrical equipment in a high-volume plastic extrusion manufacturing environment. This role focuses on identifying root causes of equipment failures, performing corrective and preventive maintenance, and supporting safe and reliable plant operations in a fast‑paced, 24/7 facility.

Responsibilities
  • Install, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair production equipment including extruders, controls, drives, gear boxes, pneumatics, hydraulics, synchronous belts, v‑belts, sheaves, roller chains, sprockets, conveyor systems, motors and gearboxes, loaders, various pumps, compressed air systems, blenders, hoists, and other equipment associated with plastic extrusion.
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical failures to the root cause and perform necessary repairs to restore safe and efficient operation.
  • Provide clear recommendations for procedural or equipment changes to help prevent repeat failures and improve equipment reliability.
  • Safely troubleshoot and repair electrical systems, including 3‑phase and single‑phase 480 V power in an industrial environment.
  • Troubleshoot and repair electrical components such as surface contact heaters, ceramic heaters, solid state relays (SSRs), variable frequency drives (VFDs), contractors, motor starters, relays, breakers, temperature controllers, mercury contractors, and fuse blocks.
  • Troubleshoot control loops and systems that use simple AC, DC, or mA control signals, ensuring accurate and stable operation.
  • Read and interpret electrical prints and diagrams to support efficient troubleshooting and repairs.
  • Troubleshoot PLCs to support reliable automation and control of production equipment.
  • Align equipment such as motors, gearboxes, couplings, and pulleys using magnetic dial indicator methods and straight‑edge methods to ensure proper operation and reduce wear.
  • Perform maintenance and repairs on overhead cranes from 1 to 10 tons, including hoist maintenance, bridge maintenance, and motor and electrical repair.
  • Maintain and repair mobile equipment such as forklifts, tugs, and small vehicles to ensure safe and reliable operation.
  • Operate a forklift safely as part of daily maintenance and material handling activities.
  • Work comfortably at heights using ladders, scaffolding, and catwalks, and perform tasks in tight or confined spaces as required.
  • Apply good housekeeping practices in all work areas and maintain a clean, organized, and safe work environment.
  • Perform calculations for mechanical fabrication and installations, and apply electrical equations such as Ohm’s law for diagnostics and repairs.
  • Use tools and equipment such as multi‑meters, amp meters, oxy‑acetylene welding and cutting equipment, arc welding equipment, drills, taps, hand and power tools, drill presses, pipe threading machines, and forklifts.
  • Support continuous plant operations in a fast‑paced, 24/7 manufacturing environment by responding to maintenance needs promptly and effectively.
  • Follow all safety procedures and guidelines while working around high temperatures, moving machinery, and elevated work areas.
Essential Skills
  • At least 5 years of experience in an industrial maintenance environment.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills in a manufacturing setting.
  • Demonstrated knowledge and hands‑on experience with 3‑phase and single‑phase 480 V power systems.
  • Ability to safely troubleshoot and repair electrical components including heaters, SSRs, VFDs, contractors, motor starters, relays, breakers, temperature controllers, mercury contractors, and fuse blocks.
  • Ability to troubleshoot control loops and systems using AC, DC, and mA control signals.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical prints and diagrams accurately.
  • Experience troubleshooting PLCs in an industrial environment.
  • Experience aligning motors, gearboxes, couplings, and pulleys using magnetic dial indicator and straight‑edge methods.
  • Experience maintaining and repairing overhead cranes (1 to 10 tons), including hoists, bridges, and related motors and electrical systems.
