Sanitation Truck Driver

Responsibilities

• Operates a sanitation truck to collect residential and commercial waste including trash, brush, litter and bulky items.
• Learn and follow assigned routes; read street maps and routes to locate route destinations.
• Reports damaged dumpsters, missing lids or bottoms, and needed.
• Perform basic vehicle inspection, maintenance, and repair prior to use on a daily basis to ensure that it is in proper operating condition.
• Performs equipment maintenance duties such as lubricating, greasing and checking belts, hoses, air, oil, gas and other fluids.
• Dump collected trash at designated dump sites/landfill.
• Picks up trash daily at the landfill and outside of gate areas.
• Make decisions whether or not to pick up trash that is set out improperly.
• Follow safety rules.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

• High School diploma or GED certificate.
• Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
• Must posses required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
• Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the basic duties of the position usually associated with having had a similar position for one to two years.
• Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
• Must live within a thirty (30) minute travel time from workstation or be able to meet this requirement within (6) months of employment.
• Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
• Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
• Knowledge of departmental and safety rules and regulations.
• Knowledge of City geography, including street and road names.
• Knowledge of how to operate and perform minor maintenance on assigned equipment.
• Skill in operating a sanitation truck.
• Skill in defensive driving techniques.
• Skill in oral and written communication.
