Responsibilities
- Operates a sanitation truck to collect residential and commercial waste including trash, brush, litter and bulky items.
- Learn and follow assigned routes; read street maps and routes to locate route destinations.
- Reports damaged dumpsters, missing lids or bottoms, and needed.
- Perform basic vehicle inspection, maintenance, and repair prior to use on a daily basis to ensure that it is in proper operating condition.
- Performs equipment maintenance duties such as lubricating, greasing and checking belts, hoses, air, oil, gas and other fluids.
- Dump collected trash at designated dump sites/landfill.
- Picks up trash daily at the landfill and outside of gate areas.
- Make decisions whether or not to pick up trash that is set out improperly.
- Follow safety rules.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
- High School diploma or GED certificate.
- Ability to read, write and perform basic mathematical calculations.
- Must posses required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Sufficient experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the basic duties of the position usually associated with having had a similar position for one to two years.
- Possession of a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) Class B issued by the State of Texas for the type of vehicle or equipment operated.
- Must live within a thirty (30) minute travel time from workstation or be able to meet this requirement within (6) months of employment.
- Must possess required knowledge, skills, abilities, and experience and be able to explain and demonstrate, with or without reasonable accommodations, that the essential functions of the job can be performed.
- Knowledge of City policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of departmental and safety rules and regulations.
- Knowledge of City geography, including street and road names.
- Knowledge of how to operate and perform minor maintenance on assigned equipment.
- Skill in operating a sanitation truck.
- Skill in defensive driving techniques.
- Skill in oral and written communication.
