OverviewThis Elective teacher plays an important role in helping high school students develop foundational and intermediate Spanish language skills through engaging instruction in speaking, listening, reading, and writing. They are responsible for delivering interactive, age-appropriate lessons that build students' confidence in communicating in Spanish while fostering an appreciation for the diverse cultures and communities of the Spanish-speaking world. The Spanish Teacher integrates biblical principles into instruction and creates a positive learning environment that encourages curiosity, academic growth, and meaningful engagement with language both inside and outside the classroom.
EssentialFunctions, Tasks, and Responsibilities
- Implement age-appropriate Spanish I and Spanish II curriculum that promotes growth in speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills.
- Teach foundational and intermediate Spanish vocabulary, grammar, pronunciation, and language structures through a variety of instructional methods.
- Facilitate interactive learning experiences that encourage students to practice and apply Spanish in authentic and meaningful contexts.
- Cultivate an understanding and appreciation of the cultures, traditions, and histories of Spanish-speaking communities around the world.
- Develop detailed lesson plans that align with curriculum objectives and learning standards.
- Assess student learning through assignments, projects, presentations, quizzes, tests, and classroom participation, and record timely student grades in the student information database.
- Provide constructive feedback and individualized support to help students grow in language proficiency and confidence.
- Encourage students to engage with the Spanish language beyond the classroom through practical applications and cultural exploration.
- Incorporate principles of faith and biblical integration into language instruction, emphasizing spiritual growth, stewardship of learning, and respect for diverse cultures and people.
- Foster open communication with parents, keeping them informed about students' progress, and actively engage in parent‑teacher conferences when necessary.
- Create a classroom atmosphere that promotes engagement, respect, collaboration, and a love of learning while ensuring the emotional and physical well-being of students.
- Provide supervision of students during indoor or outdoor recess activities, ensuring the students’ safety and adherence to school policies.
- Ensure adherence to school policies and maintain accurate records of student attendance, assessments, and other relevant data.
- Develop and practice classroom safety protocols, including emergency procedures and evacuation plans.
- Participate in faculty meetings, professional development opportunities, and school events as requested.
- Perform any other duties or responsibilities as assigned by school administrators.
