Overview

The School Nurse is responsible for ensuring the health and well-being of students at CHESS Christian School. This role includes managing student medications, responding to illnesses and injuries, and coordinating care plans in collaboration with healthcare providers. The Nurse educates staff and students on health‑related topics, maintains up-to-date medical records, and ensures compliance with health regulations and policies. Additionally, the position involves overseeing medical supplies, providing emergency response support, and keeping the school’s medical practices in alignment with best practices and legal requirements.

Functions, Tasks, and Responsibilities
  • Administer and oversee the management of medications for students in accordance with school policies and individual care plans.
  • Provide immediate medical assistance and care for students who become ill or injured during school hours, ensuring their well-being and coordinating with parents as necessary.
  • Be on-call for consultation and emergency response during off-campus hours to support students and staff in case of medical emergencies.
  • Create and maintain alerts in the FACTS database that notify staff of students' medical conditions, allergies, asthma, and other relevant health information.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers and school staff to create and implement care plans for students with temporary injury conditions or during their recovery, such as post-surgery care.
  • Track student attendance, manage the attendance inbox, and communicate promptly with teachers and parents.
  • Create and maintain accurate and updated students files
  • Conduct training sessions for non-licensed staff and coaches on topics including medication administration, managing anxiety and emotions, and provide monthly education emails and/or at faculty meetings throughout the school year.
  • Coordinate with the Monday & Wednesday Nurse to prepare and maintain emergency medical binders, ensuring they are readily accessible in the event of an emergency when they are not on campus.
  • Deliver educational programs to students on health-related topics, including but not limited to puberty, bullying, mental health, and personal wellness.
  • Follow mandatory reporting guidelines of outbreaks of communicable diseases during the school year to the Warren County Department of Health.
  • Ensure the availability and readiness of first aid kits, including those required by the Ohio Department of Education and Workforce for preschool students.
  • Oversee the inventory and ordering of medical supplies in the CHESS Student Health Clinic and for the Athletics Department first aid kits.
  • Regularly review and update medical policies, including Medication Administration Policy, Medications for Overnight Trips Policy, Standing Orders, Illness Policy for Students, etc., to ensure compliance with best practices and regulations.
  • Keep the school's handbook up to date by making necessary revisions throughout the year under the direction of the Operations Director and/or School Principal.
  • Prepare and maintain medical binders for off-site student trips, ensuring they are readily accessible in the event of an emergency when they are not on campus.
