  • Faithfully attends and supports a local church whose beliefs are in agreement with the CHESS Statement of Beliefs.
  • Agree with, support, and abide by the CHESS Christian School Statement of Beliefs, Lifestyle Statement, and Educational Philosophy.
  • K-12th teaching candidates must have a 4-year degree or the equivalent from a college or university.
  • Preschool candidates must have a high school diploma.
Overview

The Career Planning Elective Teacher equips high school students to thoughtfully explore their God-given gifts, interests, and future opportunities through a Christ-centered lens. This role guides students in identifying their strengths, researching career pathways, preparing for college or workforce entry, and developing practical life skills that support a successful transition beyond high school. Through engaging instruction, individualized coaching, and real-world experiences, the teacher helps students confidently create a personalized plan for life after graduation.

Essential

Functions, Tasks, and Responsibilities
  • Plan and deliver engaging, well-organized lessons aligned with the course objectives and CHESS educational philosophy.
  • Guide students in identifying their God-given gifts, talents, strengths, and interests through spiritual gift assessments, career inventories, and self-reflection activities.
  • Foster a classroom environment that encourages personal growth, critical thinking, and meaningful discussion about future goals.
  • Instruct students in career exploration by researching occupations, educational pathways, vocational opportunities, military service, apprenticeships, and other post-secondary options.
  • Provide instruction and guidance in college readiness, including college selection, application processes, scholarship research, financial aid awareness, and admissions timelines.
  • Teach practical workforce readiness skills, including resume development, cover letter writing, interview preparation, professional communication, and workplace expectations.
  • Assist students in developing individualized post-high school plans that align with their gifts, interests, values, and career aspirations.
  • Coordinate and oversee job-shadow experiences and other career exploration opportunities, maintaining communication with families and community partners as appropriate.
  • Monitor student progress, provide timely feedback, and maintain accurate academic records in accordance with school policies.
  • Integrate biblical principles throughout instruction, encouraging students to view their future calling as an opportunity to glorify God through faithful service.
  • Maintain regular communication with parents regarding student progress, assignments, and upcoming course activities.
  • Collaborate with school leadership, faculty, and community partners to enhance student learning opportunities.
  • Participate in faculty meetings, professional development, and other school activities as requested.

Required Qualifications

  • 4-yr degree from a college, university, or Bible school.
  • Able to pass a background check.
  • Passion for mentoring and encouraging students as they discern God's calling for their lives.
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to build positive relationships with students, families, colleges, employers, and community partners.
  • Knowledge of college admissions, career planning, workforce readiness, or post-secondary pathways is preferred.
  • Comfortable facilitating discussions, presentations, and individualized student coaching.
  • Ability to coordinate off-campus learning experiences while maintaining appropriate communication and documentation.
  • Strong technology skills, including proficiency with Google Workspace and educational technology platforms.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality and exercise sound judgment when working with students and families.
